On a recent tour of ATC at Washington National, my inquiry on the colored screen (that I assumed was some form of radar) was answered by a "Its Confidential, I cannot discuss that..."

So guys...What do you think? Any ideas...OOOOh!

Its hard to say...the controller giving me the tour was quick to change the subject, directing my attention else where. All I can say is this...

It was what appeared to be a radar "station" as one would find in any tracon, yet it was located towards the center of the control tower cab at DCA. It had a large flat screen...with no evident radar bar that circled to update the screen. It was IN COLOR...I may have seen small a/c symbols also in color...

I know the details are sketchy...my assumption is that it has to do with the President and his helicopter, or the Pentagon. I am sure someone from the forumn has some inside juice.

My guess is it would be an AEGIS radar system. It's used aboard USN ships, it is the most potent missile defense system ever developed. It has large colored screens. Just a guess.
