Starting May, 2008 CM to increase its flights to HAV to four times a day, carrying an average of 500 passengers. Is the Panama-Cuba demand that high? Is CM increasing flights to other destinations as well?

Copa provides the only connection to Havana for MANY South American countries, it is one of CMs premium cash cow routes and can be very hard to find a seat some times, It is mostly connecting traffic, although Cuba is one of the Colon Free Zone's largest customers.

Other Latinamerica (except CUN) / Caribbean - Cuba flights have very limited frequencies.
Nowadays it might be right to say that the 1st airline which comes to mind to someone in Southamerica when traveling to/from Cuba is CM.
PTY-SCU - at least thrice weekly - would really be the icing on the cake for PTY-Cuba airtraffic.

From the report:
"According to the agreement, Copa Airlines will fly to Havana four times a day, carrying an average of 500 passengers.
At present, Copa Airlines operates three daily flights to Cuba, and flights will increase to 28 a week after the agreement comes into force."
The new flight PTY-HAV will be probably departing in the evening bank and returning early next day.
At this time, there are two CM PTY-HAV in the morning array.

TA offers one daily morning departure HAV-SJO that allows connections to nine South American countries through SJO and LIM as long as an evening operation TA SJO-HAV is able to come back those passengers to Cuba.
However, CM supplies more connections to South America from HAV, as you pointed out.

I agree there.
CM is currently offering the best level of service supported on frequencies, more destinations and just one stop on the way to their South American stations from HAV.
CU flies to CCS, BOG and EZE with limited weekly schedules.
LA gets one weekly SCL-HAV.
IMHO, the South American market is participating actively in order to load CM's planes for their other destinations in the Caribbean: STI, PUJ, SDQ, PAP, KIN, SJU, ADZ and POS next month.

Regards.

Sounds like this will make travel to Cuba easier flying from the West and Midwest of the USA, for those choosing to ignore the travel embargo.

I wonder if the U.S. government has any problem with CM doing business with Cuba when CO still owns about 10% of CM (down from 49% as recently as 2005).

I think most level headed people consider that embargo one of the silliest foreign policy positions around today. I would think CM would would rather buy back CO's 10% interest than sacrifice a lucrative route if the Americans made an issue of it.

CM PTY-HAV is not for leisure traffic exclusively.
One of the three daily flights has been code-shrared with CU.
CU is boosting special fares for Cuban residents in Panama as shown in the following link in Spanish:

Full schedule allocation: SCL-HAV-CUN-MIA-CUN-HAV-SCL with 763 on LA.
Once a week.

That looks like an obvious HAV-MIA via CUN to me.
