It seems to be that all of JFK's flights are departing from T8, while the new terminal is supposed to be T9. Are they now one and the same?

T8 is the new AA terrminal. They're in the process of tearing down the old T8 now that the hew AA terminal is completed. Hopefully AA will build out the East side of the new terminal now that the old T8 will be gone.

Makes perfect sense. The old one was a dump. The new one is world class.

Once the old Terminal 8 closed the new terminal was renamed T8. All along in the new terminal the stores have been branded "The Shops at Eight." It was a tell tale sign that once the project was complete the new facility would become T8, and alas, it has.

Unfortunately there are no plans at this time to build out the rest. I suppose if AA gets enough interest from oneworld carriers it could happen, but it's not in the plans for now.

It can always be expanded in the future

This is true. As sad it will be to have a half-completed terminal, American has the one thing few carriers at JFK can claim - the ability to expand their terminal in the future. B6 will likely have some flexibility as well, once their new terminal opens, but Delta cannot rebuild T2/T3 without a huge and costly project that will be highly disruptive to their already saturated facilities. A shame, since Delta seems to be the most dedicated to expanding longhaul services from JFK.

American's new terminal is spectacular. A little sterile, yes (it could use some greenery inside) but it's spacious and modern to the extreme. As Qqflyboy said, if AA grows their operations, or if more Oneworld carriers express interest in consolidating under one roof, the second half of Concourse B can be built.

After 9/11 American eliminated Concourse A (two wings on the lower level of the terminal which would have served American Eagle flights.) Instead, there are 6-7 dedicated Eagle gates, with jetbridges, on Concourse C. Eagle's operations at JFK have been curtailed in the last five years, so this should be sufficient.

Does anyone know if Concourse A was completely removed from the design? Can those wings even be added in the future? The space between the current Concourse B and the terminal roadways is already pretty tight - I think they'd be hard-pressed to fit another concourse, plus ramp space for RJs, into such a tight corner.
