Hi there
I was reading a local newspaper on the internet (El Universal) that a Continental 737 is off the runway at SJD, according to the same source, the airport is closed since the incident, and on Continental.com was flight 1609 to Newark, dose anyone have more information about this?

flight was cancelled due to ground damage in SJD............currently dont have any other info

Pardon my rusty Spanish, but the article says that the plane went off the runway due to a mechanical failure on the nose landing gear during landing and that the airport is now closed.

RoseFlyer, that is correct, I think that the article was just updated, because, when I post it, there was almost no information on what happen, glad to here everyone is ok.

CO Flight 1608, EWR-SJD, landed at 1526. The aircarft had to turn around at the end of the runway in SJD due no taxiway and the aircraft's right main landing gear got stuck in the sand. The passengers were deplaned and taken to the terminal via vans. The aircraft was then jacked up and towed to the ramp next to AS.

There was a TED flight as #1 waiting holding short for over 2 hours to take off. 3 AS flights, 235 to SFO left at 1716, 263 to PDX left at 1728...both over 3 hours late and 205 to SEA at 1735...over 2 hours late. There was a DL Connection CRJ operated by SkyWest and numerous others at the other terminal.

What a crazy day at SJD!

PDXFlyBoy, that's what I imagine it happen, the aircraft is ok? Do you know when is going to fly back to the States?

Looks like it is flying back to EWR today as flight 1942. ETD 1430 ETA 2122. Fit and ready to fly.

yeah i can imagine, i mean if it just went into the sand, the firont gear,you can easily get it back into service.

Alaska has mechanics in Cabo who may have been able to examine and takecare of the problem right after it happened and helping CO get the plane back in service quickly.

The new taxiway is under construction at SJD. Does anyone have a time table on completion?

AS739X Great to hear that SJD is getting a new taxiway, I didn't knew about this, do you know since, when is under construction?

I could never figure out how SJD could be so busy and the government down there wouldn't build a taxiway. But from what I last heard was it was started and runs along the east side or terminal side of the runway. This will alleviate the need for a taxi back.

Yeah I can imagine that, with all the commercial traffic and the general aviation traffic, and using the runway for taxi after landing and using the runway by the departing aircraft's must be a hell of a mess and also I imagine it is causing some delays specially at peak times.

Yes He speaks the truth... Ship 728 ... Ferry back to EWR ... Via IAH ( for FIS) .. and onward to EWR as 1942 ..
But running about 3 hours late... hence the need to stop in IAH for USC clearance..

The aircraft sits even now over at E22 .... almost ready to take wing to EWR...
