Hi guys, I was wondering if we will ever see LY, VS or SQ in GRU with regularly scheduled service. What do you think? Some months ago our friend Hardi opened a thread about KE and MH's interest in GRU: After EK And KE, Now MH Wants Flights To GRU (by Hardiwv Aug 17 2007 in Civil Aviation) but the thread has been archived now.

Speaking of KE's plans for ICN-LAX-GRU, does anybody know if an official announcement has been made or will be made soon?

I understand that EK is doing very well and will also launch DXB-GIG at some point, which is great both for EK and Brazil.

On a semi-related matter, I was wondering which Brazil-Africa routes currently exist?

If any of these three airlines start flights to GRU, I guess VS would be the first. It focuses on longhaul routes that attract premium passengers. GRU would not be a viable route for SQ without a stop en route. If SQ is interested in flying to GRU, it probably would want its flights to stop in South Africa. I doubt SQ could secure fifth freedom rights between CPT or JNB and GRU. LY has been contemplating scheduled flights to Brazil and Argentina for 35 years, but it has yet to happen. I suppose that there would be strong demand for flights between TLV and GRU/GIG and EZE. Occupancy on such flights probably would be very high, but yield may be low because it may not attract enough business travelers.

SA flies to GRU from JNB every day. DT flies between LAD and GIG two or three times a week.

KE has not yet made an official announcement that it is resuming flight to GRU.

Hi Eddie.
VS is in fact looking for GIG, it's on their wish-list and expected to begin only with 787 (or when they become available for other routes). So i believe not before 2009.
LY and SQ never heard official comments about plans to fly to Brazil.

Correct, AFAIK the flight is performing very well. We're waiting for GIG flight but IMO, the improvements at GIG may take a role on the decision... let's wait.

GRU-JNB 10x weekly to be downgraded in some weeks to Daily. DT flies LAD-GIG three times a week, but every week they demand and get approval for two extra flights, which means they run the route nowadays 5x weekly with 743. Not to forget the service offered by VR from RAI to FOR, 2x weekly nowadays with 752.

Thanks for the information guys.

I am sure that VS will be very successful in GIG, especially if they use 788s. I bet Brazilians (and especially Cariocas) are looking forward to the official announcement.

Do you happen to know, by any chance, if DT has mileage accrual agreements with other airlines? If there is someone here in a.net who has flown long haul with DT, it would be very nice to hear their thoughts about the food, the service, the general state of the aircraft, etcetera.

Eddie, their 743 is a little old-fashioned. But we have some A.Net members that already flew it on LIS-LAD or GIG-LAD. Hope someone can bring some words about the plane, the flights and the airline. AFAIK the check-in is always overcrowded and it's a kind of airline that you can even pay to "confirm" your seat.

I found a video with a landing at LAD. Interesting
