The US DOT has confirmed its tentative decision to award frequencies to Colombia as follows, all with 7 weekly frequencies:

DL: JFK to BOG 757
B6: MCO to BOG A320
NK: FLL to BOG A319

These must be started within 90 days.

CO: IAH to BOG 73G. Second daily on this route, with a new overnight flight in both directions.

This must be started by 10th October.

DOT has put specific conditions on these awards, tougher than it has been teh case on frequencies to Colombia. Dormancy of routes would mean easier reposession by DOT. They also seem to be route specific -whereas there has been more flexibility on most awards in the past.

Great news! Glad JetBlue gets the oppurtunity to fly into BOG.

This flight should do well. They will have to market it correctly because I believe there are only 50 O&D passengers, but I'm sure they will come up with something. Especially with all the connecting passengers from other cities that connect through MCO.

LOL. I'd bet that the aircraft previously allotted for LAX are the ones getting sold.

The red-eye schedule allocation allows a better utilization for the aircrafts.
Related to the Latin American landscape, Spirit Airlines is currently launching some of their flights following the same pattern: LIM-FLL, MGA-FLL, SAP-FLL, SDQ-FLL, FLL-PTY and the second seasonal FLL-SJO.

Regards.

Delta has confirmed that it will start its newly authorised JFK-BOG route on 19th August. It will follow the pattern of its current ATL-BOG flight, departing JFK in the afternoon, arriving at BOG ~ 8 pm, where it overnights for 12 hours before the return.

Spirit have said that they will start its FLL-BOG sometime in July, but that they will make an official announcement next week. According to Amadeus, NK's start date will be 24th July. Schedule:
depart FLL 1030, arrive BOG 1300
depart BOG 1355, arrive FLL 1835

In answer to an enquiry by a Colombian newspaper, jetBlue said that they did not know when they would start MCO-BOG.
I think that in this case it's particularly important that they take advantage of the midyear Colombian holiday season, that it's essentially the whole of July. jetBlue have already got a counter at BOG, That should be a sign that they the groundwork is well underway.

Yes, just saw the schedule, and it's interesting that they have set this flight up (unlike most of their JFK-Latin America services) for connections wtih European flights (the BOG-JFK leaves BOG 8am and gets into JFK at 3pm while the JFK-BOG leaves at 4pm)

They might want to take a bite of the Colombia-Europe market. Flights from BOG to Europe are constantly going out oversold, and have become tremedously expensive. Lots of these travelers have US and Schenghen visas, or have dual nationality, and that market should be looked at by DL.

Im glad that we will finally have low fare connections to the US, but i still donĀ“t complain about the current airfares between the capital and the states.

Good luck to all.

BTW, the capacity increase this year on BOG-NYC is amazing. We are going from two daily to four daily flights. Only comparable with BOG-MEX last year, that went from 11 weekly to thrice daily, and soon 4x daily!

Agreed.
DL can also transfer passengers from BOG to Europe by means of the the current DL BOG-ATL.

I would think the outbound would be easy to connect people at JFK, esp if a terminal NOT requiring passing through Customs/Immigration were to be built, similar to EU flights.

Dumb question, why does B6 want to fly out of MCO? Do they have strong Florida presence? I thought the majority of their traffic was ex-Den. I looked at the the route map, and don't see much connecting IN Florida nor MCO to anywhere. Large O/D traffic? It just doesn't seem like a logical jump off point. What am I missing?

you might have us confused with F9 (Frontier). we (Jetblue) serve MCO to 16 different cities (i believe). if the MCO-BOG flights are timed right, then there could be lots of connecting pax to/from BOG. looking forward to hearing the official announcment from B6 of when it'll start!

Looks like they're preparing the route map already.

Hopefully this is the case since JetBlue, lately, hasn't shown that timing is in their scheduling forte. (i.e. The discontinuation of SLC-BUR/SFO) I wish JetBlue the best on this new route!
