Blamed not only on fuel costs but lower demand, somewhat due to the new Chinese visa restrictions (which will expire after the Olympics).

Flights to be cut: Guangzhou to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Angkor, Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore for the months of June, July, August and September. Flights to Seoul, Los Angeles, Paris, Sydney, Jakarta, Lagos, Dubai, Delhi, Fukuoka and Penang will be cut as well.

The articles indicate services might come back from October. The articles don't say if these are complete cuts or cuts in capacity/frequency.

I highly doubt that all of this are complete cuts.

More like flight reductions and aircraft rather than dropping routes.

The article said "may cut" LAX...not a sure thing yet.

There will be some reduction in capacity between now and Oct, but no routes dropped altogether!

Sorry, but that's not 100% correct.

In fact, China Southern Airlines has decided to drop all its flights to Angkor, Cambodia; and Phuket, Thailand roughly between mid-June and end-Sept. With almost all other Southeast Asian routes getting a heavy cut on capacity.

I have been informed that close to 90% of the airline's international routes will be affected with most international services see a reduction in flight frequency, smaller operating aircraft or flight cancellation on "selected days".

Regards.

How will this affect the planned start-up of flights to YVR next year (summer 2009).

As part of the new Chinese airlines route announcements, CAN - YVR flights on CZ were to start summer 2009.

I was originally booked on one of the morning flights from CAN to SIN this month. Agent informed that the flight was cancelled. We were subsequently rebooked onto the evening flight.

An error to correct:

Urumqi to Dushanbe from 1 weekly to 2 weekly. <- incorrect, remains 1 weekly.

Beijing to Urumqi to Tehran for 2 weekly.

Aircraft changing from 777 to A332, route was supposed to go daily or six weekly.

Quoting Coolfish1103 (Reply 6):
Guangzhou to Dubai from 4 weekly to 3 weekly.

PEK-IKA was served four times weekly as 2 x 737-700/800 via URC and 2 x A332 nonstop, now the nonstop has ended while the one stop URC service has been upgraded to a 757.

Guangzhou to Paris, Charles de Gaulle from 3 weekly to 2 weekly.

In fact CZ is currently serving CDG with its own metal by 4 weekly flights in addition to the 3 weekly flights operated by AF and code-shared with CZ. So no big deal if they drop one flight per week
