Air France chairman Cyril Spinetta -aged 64- will soon be leaving his current position and be replaced by the current Directeur GĂ©neral, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon.
Spinetta will be heading the board of the Air France/KLM Holding .
The precise date for the change has not been revealed ,but news hitting the wires in France suggest it would be rather soon.
Spinetta headed Air France for 11 years and it was under his management that the company rose to it's current leadership-level in international air-transport.
He's a great man and France can be proud to have people like him taking entrepreneurial responsibilities !

Indeed, he's done a great job! I hope the next AF chairman will be as successful as Spinetta has been. But, to me, Gourgeon is not the best man for this job!!! Let's wait and see.
Regards.

While I agree that he has been a tremendous CEO for the Groupe Air France, it was Christian Blanc who managed to save the company and turn it around with solid bases to start from the ground up and rising.

I hope that the next CEO will be as successful as Spinetta in increasing Air France/KLM's stronghold in Europe and worldwide.

I am for one glad that he finally ditched Alitalia's recovery plan. And it is true that under his management, Air France employees seem to have gained in working conditions/salaries as I believe that never we have seen so few strikes from the Air France crews, this deserves huge credits alone  Wink

I was just going to say the same thing...credit for the initial turnaround really should go to Christian Blanc who really kick-started the recovery effort after the final government bailout back in the mid-90s. Of course Spinetta has done a fantastic job since then as well...

Christian Blanc is (and has always been) an arrogant assh*le who would kill his own mother to make the medias talk about him. His attempt in a "political" career is nothing but pathetic. Nobody regrets him at AF while everybody will miss Jean Cyril Spinetta who is a real great person.

There is nothing official yet on his replacement by Gourgeon. This is only media speculation for the moment, as Gourgeon is far from making unanimity among AF Directors & shareholders.

I'd argue the real credit for AF's turaround belongs to Steve Wolf.

He will be replaced on the 1st of January 2009, according to Le Figaro.

Spinetta was a great manager. I hope Gourgeon will up the challenge.
