Hi everyyone!

Just a quick question.....I was planning on booking a trip to HK from Sydney for the christmas break at the end of this year with the preference of ether flying Qantas or Cathay ex Sydney. I do know that Cathay has increased its frequency to 4 flights per day/ 3 days a week of which are all serviced by A330-300 which i dont have a problem with...

BUT.....i was really hoping to fly on Qantas because i have done this before to HK on one of their twice daily flights..Either QF 127 or QF 187. I know that 187 has always been either a 767-300ER or A330-300 but i have noticed that lately Qantas have changed 127 after alll this time to a A333 from the 744! That was actually the only reason why i am biased for this flight coz i love the 747!

Can anyone tell me if this is a permanent aircraft change because if so i think i would rather fly Cathay...?

Thanks,

Jokestar

No just a temp change. Due to a shortage of 744s.

QF127 still shows 744 on most days in Dec (7th & 14th Dec are 330), just the occasional substitute I think. If you have a slight flexibility on dates, you can easily avoid the 330 and get on the 744.

Hello there,

We currently have 3 Jumbos out of service.

One in MNL, One in LHR and one for refit of Y+...

We were recently told they are basing a 744 in SIN and flying it between SIN-LHR/FRA with the 333/743 operating between SYD/MEL-SIN.

I recently operated a sector between SYD-HKG and many First and business passengers were re routed via MEL the night before...

Enjoy your flights with which ever airline you choose.

I recently did SYD-HKG and got the 744 on the way there and A332 on the way back. There must have been a 744 shortage on my return trip, as Airnewzealand has said, because all of the QF departures that night to MEL, SYD and BNE were A330's.

I'll bet QF can't wait to commence A380 services to the US so they can free some 744's!

What happened to the aircraft at LHR?

I am here at SYD now waiting for my connecting flight to SFO... which is delayed due to this shortage of 744...

Both HKG bound flights are operated by Airbus A330-300 today.

VH-QPJ as QF 188
VH-QPD as QF 128

The only way to fly a QF 744 from SYD to HKG at the moment is to fly to MEL and take a connecting flight (QF29) from there.

Until the end of Oct, most QF127/128 flights are scheduled with 333.

How long can we expect this 744 shortage thing will last for?

And this is good news.

At least they aren't using 763s again on SYD-HKG flights as happened early this year.

Wonder why QF don't make arrangements to lease the NZ 744 that's soon to be parked up....

That is probably the last 744 QF wants to lease ... isn't good to the QF brand considering NZ is one of their major competitors.

Well SYD may have dodged the 763 bullet but not so lucky for MEL-HKG-MEL. QF85 & 86 will be operated by a 763 until Nov 15 (when the A333 will be back servicing the route).

That's what I was going to suggest.
If you don't mind it being an overnight flight, connect on the 11pm departure ex-MEL to HKG.

767 are operating from MEL/BNE-HKG.

Aircraft in LHR apparently has APU issues or something to that matter.

Spoke to 747-300 Engineers yesterday...aircraft operating AKL-LAX until end of December now. So maybe next year they will be gone. Also apparently -EBT has been sold.

Cheers

The shortage of B744 aircraft will continue until the A380 fleet arrive... QF will have 3 A380 aircraft in service by years end which will free up approximately 2-3 B744 aircraft for the NEW South America route...

Good for spotting not so good for J class pax.

EBT left the fleet in Jan 07, I thought it was sold sometime ago?

Correct about EBV, W, X & Y. I've just been searching around the net regarding EBT and it looks like it was retired and sold sometime in mid 2007. Can anyone confirm?

VH=EBT is definitely gone. I just did a search on the CASA register and EBT is now an experimental aircraft.

Thanks for the info. So we might barely see her fly again this year. Anyway, good to hear that OJK will be repaired and that damage wasn´t unfixable.

The horse has bolted there at least in the NZ market place IMO. That's what happens when big delays become the norm and not the exception. Personally although it might be a little bad for their brand to operate an NZ aircraft, more damage is done by continually delaying passengers because the aircraft is late or has broken down again, or both...

This is particularly QF25/26 and the domestic NZ flights I referring to...
