Topic: A380 Flights To LHR Username: Legacytravel Posted 2008-12-06 21:21:31 and read 6702 times.I am flying to LHR in about 3 weeks. I wanted to know what airlines are flying the A380 into LHR and the aproximate times. My 11 y/o son is hoping to see one as much as I am.
I did look to see if there was a thread started. I did not see one.
I will arrive in LHR around 8:00 PM on VS and will depart VS around 4:00 pm for my retun flight. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

At present, both Singapore and Emirates are using the 380 into LHR.
Singapore has 2 each day, the first arrives around 0555 and departs 1155. This is usually towed to a remote stand near T5 after passengers have disembarked for cleaning etc. The second arrives early evening and departs around 2200.
Emirates arrives 1130 and departs 1345 approx. |

Great. Both my son and I will try and take lots of pictures. Is there an observation area in T3?
I might have to buy you a pint for all of the information.
Thanks,

Not really although a wander up the piers will give some fairly good views.

Ok we will do that.
I do miss the days of the open air observation area in MKE. It was on the roof of D Concourse. It cost .10 to go up there and was worth every penny.
I remember having a NW 747 being only 100 ft away or so.
Ah the good old days. It makes me sad that the kids today cannot experience that.

So true!
When inside T3 go directly to the south pier (pier 6, stands 301 to 307) .. Both A380s park there.

And if you're lucky, you'll get an SAS Maddog at the end of the pier to help compare sizes

Topic: RE: A380 Flights To LHR Username: Rutankrd Posted 2008-12-07 02:19:23 and read 6307 times.Actually its quite likely that your arrival flight may well park within a very few stands of the Singapore 388 as both airlines use pier 6 in Terminal 3.
So far A388s only seem to use two stands on this pier (excepting the remote parking after unloading of the morning flight) |

I really did and I was happy about it. However among all the long 777-300 it did not look that impressive. But at least I can say : "I have seen the bird". |

That's one of the A380 gates on the new peir at T3 and the picture was taken from inside the gate lounge which can only be accessed with a boarding pass for the relevant flight.
Without a boarding card you will be behind the glass on the left side of the picture try to shoot an aircraft out on the tarmac to the right of the picture.
Might be best to shoot from the aircraft if possible.

EK landed at 11:33 today, the SQ was late and delayed on the taxiway after it pushed back for some 45 minutes. This was around 11:40-11:45.
I just have a point and click compact camera.

Got very lucky a few weeks ago in LHR. Taken from BA778 to ARN around 11:10.
Emirates will be starting their second daily service on 2 January (EK3/4) arriving 18:15, departing 20:00.

I think any hype surrounding it refers to the First and Business class cabins. No other passenger aircraft in service will give you that amount of space and luxury.
A Yseat is a Y seat, on any aircraft on any airline.

On Emirates, the upper deck is Business and First Class, lower deck is all Economy. I won't be on the upper deck so far as I know. Perhaps they'll let us go to the bar up there?

Great .. looking forward to that. I will be on EK's big bird on Dec 24th, when is your trip to LHR?
Will try to post my trip report on the A388 too after I arrive in Addis Ababa.
Here's a pic I took two weeks ago, SQ A380 at stand 503
