AA B772 Operational Analysis (by HB-IWC Nov 29 2006 in Civil Aviation)

According to this comprehensive (and fascinating) analysis of AA's 777 ops in 2006, it says they flew BOS-SDQ once a week on 777 equipment. I have never heard of that service?

Any info? What's the story behind it? Utilization?

Yes, it actually operated for - if I remember correctly - 2 or 3 winters like that. The morning BOS-LHR flight (156) does not operate in the winter months. For several seasons, they would take that 777 and run it on the BOS-SDQ route on Saturdays only. In fact, if you look at the schedule for this upcoming winter, the Saturday BOS-SDQ flight 2087 is shown operating with a 763, which indeed is the 763 that would be flying BOS-LHR the other six days of the week. So they still use the same scheduling pattern, it's just that since BOS-LHR has now been downgraded, that BOS-SDQ flight is now a 763 instead of a 777.

Wow. Very interesting indeed. And AA doesn't operate the route on any other day of the week, just the Saturday frequency?

Depends on the year and the season.

For example, this year, the schedule is a Saturday-only 757 this summer, moving this winter to a 763 on Saturdays only and a 757 on Wednesdays.

In previous years, if I remember, it has operated up to as much as 4x weekly during winter seasons. For a couple of years (2002-2003, I think), AA also used to fly BOS-PAP nonstop, 1-2x weekly.
