I have just been watching the new Ansett advertisements on the TV. Very interesting to see that the Airbus A320 features substantially and there is no 767 to be seen - just the B747-400, and A320.

One wonders what Gary Toomey will discuss with Gordon Bethune at Continental later this month, since he is an ex Boeing man and they are operating the B767-400. Anyone at Delta know if he is calling in there as well?

Haven't seen the new AN campaign, but I'm looking forward to it - hope it's better than the last one  Smile
(sorry, but I didnt like it much!)
I don't understand how a deal with CO will go ahead - what would UA and fellow star members think of this?
Wouldn't this then link AN in with the KL-NW alliance?

There is NO deal; Toomey is going there to talk and play with the B767-400 - remember Bethune is an ex Boeing man, and I bet Boeing have arranged this as part of their sales pitch.

I was not impressed with the adverts - I still think that the "Enya" ones were the best.

The airport terminals shown in the advertisement was the new Sydney Ansett terminal. Why don't they show the terminal of their actual hub which is melbourne. Look at the departure and arrival halls, so small and congested with all those long que, if you used to experienced their Melbourne terminal, you'll know what I'm trying to said.

Phileo, what are you talking about? SYD is their main hub, MEL is their admin base. They have more flights our of SYD than out of any other airport, that surely constitutes a case to make SYD their main hub. Secondly, doesn't it make sense to show off your best terminal?

The queues aren't that bad, I've flown AN out of MEL numerous, numerous times over the past few years.

There are indeed 767s in that advertisement (3 scenes in the short ad), I don't think AN would be scared of putting in 767s, how many people out there can actually recognise a 767?

Cheers,

Justin

I've seen the ad last night and thought it was just fine. Although I do agree with Oz777 that the enya ones are the absolute BEST!!
I think they have to focus (in the ads) more on the safety and service side of the airline, since they have no chance against QANTAS in trying to provoke patriotism...

Can you view them online??

Air Taiwan,

No chance in provoke patriotism? Doesn't the name say it all? "ANSETT AUSTRALIA"

I saw one add last night that had the 767 in it and I agree the majority of Australia's population (like elsewhere) would not know the difference between them.

I like the shine theme, it's wishy washy, warm and fuzzy, it's the 'nice' side of the airline. People are basically 'stupid' and will fall for that kind of fluff stuff.

Let's see what the rest of the add campaign is like.

***Go your own way!*** (That was short lived.)

Go AN!

Only saw the end of the "Shine" ad last night and the couple of scenes I saw looked great. Nice footage of the aircraft, notably the A320. I was flicking through today's paper and found an Ansett ad which took the whole page and showed Michael Klim with the words "Am I with Ansett? Absolutely!"

Very clever ad indeed. I mean who doesnt look up to the World 50m freestyle record holder? I sure as hell look up to the bloke  Big grin

QANTAS should start the "I still call Aust. home" campaign with 'Livie Newton John & the Aust. Childrens Choir singing, i think that it would blow AN Adverts out of the water, or should i say air. I bet Qantas is in the process of developing a advertising campaign to go head to head with ansett's right this second

I forgot to say that the advert is really good i seen it a minute ago, Realy smart move using Vanessa Amorosi's shine song (sounds Good, 'cept for the "absolutley" add in bits) but i wonder if they know that she wrote it about death and suicide.

B_QF,

Those "i still call Australia home" adds in the toffy choir voices annoyed the hell out of most Aussies after they were played more than a few times. Everyone hated them towards the end and it was an expensive mistake on QF's part to spend so much money on that particular advertising campaign.

The money would have been better spent on making sure that QF staff drop their horrid collective attitudes.

Cheers,

***Shine on AN***

I actually enjoyed the QF adverts and i think that if Olivia Newton John and maybe John Farnam sung I still call Australia home it would be a good advert, "The money would have been better spent on making sure that QF staff drop their horrid collective attitudes" what is up with this statement, I realy take offence to that as i am friends with many QF staff in darwin, so you may have had one bad flight with QF or if you are unlucky two bad flights (JKS) but no airline is perfect.

BrueniAir,

I like QF, but I prefer AN as they have always had superior service and pleasantness compared to QF. Try calling QF or AN and see exactly how long it takes you to get through to customer service.

Take a few flights with AN and see the difference, after all the AN staff have been through they still are far superior in customer service than QF.

Further to that, AN, ANZ & QF both are the friendliest airlines in the world. Without a doubt! The Aussie/Kiwi hospitality is renowned worldwide!

****Absolutely*** (I cringe, but hopefully it will work for AN!)

Cheers,

mb

I have flow many times with both airline and thought that they were equally good, though i did come across one Ansett f/a that needed a good slapping, but i left that up to her Boss/inflight supivisor. Do you mean the 131 number i did that the other day to book a DRW-ADL flight but i had to wait 7 min to get through, is this normal i have never rung b4. I have never rung QF before so i dont know what they are like.

PS. Brenjoro_QF

I heard V. Amerossi say that the song was about suicide aswell

Actually Brenjoro - I see you hit the nail on the head suggesting Olivia Newton John and the Choir singing "I still call Australia home". - an exact parody of QF: - a Pom masquerading as an Aussie,(who lived most of her life o'seas) and a bunch of featureless children digitally copied into remote locations.

Sorry, but I have to agree with mb on this one, there is an arrogance about QF which I find hard to take sometimes. From a supplier perspective they are recognised as being one of the hardest airlines to deal with (attitude wise).

Noting really to do with the AN advertising - overall impression is that it seems a bit rushed and bland.

The new AN ads get my vote. They basically use the old trick of using personalities to promote the product. Garuda used Elle (The Body) a few years back!

If you look @ the ad you will notice that it is structured in a way that makes you watch it because you are trying to figure out;

a) who the actual personality is
b) which personality is coming up next

Ansett managed to score the support of these people by offering them flights & packages rather then money. I read this in the Sydney Morning Herald sometime this week.

I do recall seeing the B767 & A320 in the ad, however, I don't recall seeing any B737s.

Good luck to AN, I hope that things start looking up for them from here.

"Absolutely" Ansett Australia
