DL is teaming up with eBay to offer free Wi-Fi service on all its Go-Go equipped flights for 1 week.

I am definitely using it tomorrow for my transcon trip!!!
Hope the SAN-ATL 757 has it.

It should since they typically use the 75X (ex-Song a/c) on that route. But with the Thanksgiving holiday, you never know what their a/c schedulers will do. I'm flying ATL-LAS tonight and hope that the 757 is a 75X with the WiFi.

I did ATL -> LAS Tuesday night on a 763 with NO WiFi! Sad

I use it a LOT -- works very well.

Coming back to TPA on NW metal though --- Sad

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

That's because only a few of the 763 domestics have had the system installed. It makes me glad that my flight got downgraded to a 752 since I have a better chance of having WiFi.

75X or not you should have a good chance, as of 11/17/09 there were 103 757s complete so chances are whether its a Transcon or regular ol' 75, you're in luck..

My friend sent me a text last night when he got on his plane to Florida that was basically "Holy crap, this thing has WiFi!!!". I told him about the fleet conversion and he said he was definitely going to use it. Haven't talked to him since to see how he liked it but given the response on here I'm sure it was a good experience. I'm hopefully going to be getting a new laptop today, one that doesn't die after 10 minutes like my old one, so I'll actually be able to use the internet on my next flight. I'm pretty excited!  Smile

It is absolutely worth the penny even if I am paying for it. My ATL/LAS Trip on a 763 went by fast and sweetly.

I was even checking out Airliners.net on the flight (shameless plug I know)

I used it last night and perhaps made the first deletion in the history of Airliners.net from 30,000' (Now that's a shameless plug!). I spent some time on FlightAware, as for some reason, Delta's moving map on my flight did not include the map (all we had was the speed, altitude, outside temp., etc.).

DL is trying to drum up interest for onboard Wi-Fi even though there's mounting evidence that no one who isn't an a.net geek pays for it, even if the cost is just a flat $1 (seriously). See this report from The Economist.

Wi-Fi will either remain as a free service or disappear (again).

I do not think it will disappear (AirCell's costs are WAY below that of Connexion by Boeing), but will become a very low cost ($50/yr??) or free service for high level frequent fliers. Casual users will still be able to sigh up for ad hoc usage.

This is the same model as the hotel chains (e.g. Hilton, Marriott, etc).

IMHO.

How are the speeds? For example, could I use it to watch shows on Hulu or movies on my Netflix account?

Try this promo code: Deltatrygogo

I have used it twice on my transcon flights on Delta last month. Make sure you have multiple email addresses and you can save yourself some money.  Smile

ATL-SAN route will have Wifi. Enjoy while it's free.

If you start downloading the movie when you take off from JFK, you might get to see the opening credits over LAS or something like that...

Actually, hotel chains are moving towards a Wi-Fi-inclusive model, the cost is rolled up into the price of the room.
