From 5/11 edition of Justplanes.com

Virgin Atlantic became the first airline to sign up publicly for Boeing's Sonic Cruiser with an order for between 3 and 6 of the new aircraft which will be able to fly up to 300 passengers at about 650mph, lopping 75 minutes off the time taken by a jumbo to fly between London and New York.

Yeah! We finally have a airline that are buying SONIC CRUISER for sure!!!  Smile Will Emirates be the 2nd to order? I heard that Emirates is very interested for Sonic Cruiser.

I'd take that report with a very large pinch of salt. More likely Branson has expressed firm interest and may have reserved delivery positions/signed a letter of intent to come into force once the design is established.

What a load of BS. Branson will be pretty far back in line when Boeing starts taking orders. First dibs will go to AA, CO and UA. Your best customers always go first.

All Virgin has said is they are interested in the aircraft if Boeing chooses to build it.

April 1st was last month.

I read the Times report.. as an `order' its about as valid as Iran Air's Concorde order in the `60s.
Give it a few years yet.

Wingman,

First dibs, as you put it, will go to whoever puts the money down first and reserves delivery positions.

Well, when SIA walzted in after Emirates and said we want our 380 first, Airbus said Emirates was first. Then SIA told Airbus to shut the hell up and Airbus said, whatever you say number one most imporatnt customer. If AA or CO place an order for 20 SCs each and Branson orders three, then money will talk and BS will take a flying hike to the back of the line. Customers with 400-700 of your planes in their fleets don't take a backseat against cusotmers with 20.

An airline buys a plane before the manufacturer decides to build it? I think not. Nice try.

Duh. . .

I ordered 20 new ultrasonic ZAM jets to be made by my mad uncle Zog in his hideout below the island of Pau pau. Ready for delivery in 2020, unless James Bond and the new Bond girls find it first.

Secret seat pitch of 40 inches in coach on my new airline "Fabulair" as compared to Branson's pitch of 29 inches on his sonic cruisers.

I don't think that's a interesting joke.

Hkgspotter1, I respect the information you provide to this forum, but must you always let your personal feelings about "us yanks" be included in almost every response? We're not all bad people. Like I said, you seem to be a valuable forum member, but I feel like I am being attacked every time you respond. I think everyone knows you don't care for America and its politics by now!

As for the topic at hand, Jiml1126, Virgin has not ordered the Sonic Cruiser yet, so it it is a moot point to even speculate what cities they might serve. Boeing hasn't even launched the plane or offered it for sale, so this source is obviously mistaken. Boeing is currently meeting with potential customers and trying to set the specifications, and most likely won't begin taking orders until 2002.

"You ain't goin' nowhere, son. You ought to go back to driving a truck."
Jim Denny (Manager of the "Grand Ole Opry"), firing Elvis Presley after one performance, September 25, 1954

I put this quote up because it seems that a lot of people are writing this project off way way too early.

No one's writing it off.
An expression of interest by an airline does not constitute an order.
