Hi,

Just saw on the news that a QF A330 made an emergency landing at SYD in the last 30 minutes.

Not sure of the exact reason, but I heard the end of the report and it mentioned something about "major landing gear problems" - anyone know anything?

Just found this link on SMH website.

Brief, but plane was heading for PVG and apparently landing gear didn't retract after take-off.

Not really such a problem. But helicopters are apparently circling and trying to get pictures, and the media is shouting EMERGENCY and passengers will no doubt have feared for their lives and seen white lights, etc.

more a precautionary landing than an emergency

What I heard on the news- the plane's gear didnt retract after takeoff. It circled off-shore for about 3 hours to reduce weight and landed safely in SYD. An alternative plane was found and the passengers left again after 5 hours delay.

Not a major problem, but of course the news mentioned other recent QF "incidents" and I'm sure the unions will make the usual statements about Qantas maintenance.

While the a.net regulars will make the usual statements about unions, as demonstrated here.

In fairness it was a frame grab from their video but I agree a moments consideration would have selected a better image.

They also had the right aircraft which is better than most of the other media whose photos and vision mostly shared only a red tail with the incident aircraft (and each other),

Cheers

On a positive note, I would imainge it would be much better to have the landing gear not retract and return to SYD then not have them extend when they get to PVG lol
