Just looked at July 26th and it's a 757.

Why?

That's flight AA299 you are talking about.
According to aa.com, that flight is a 777 until Jul 1st and then it is downgraded to a 757 for the summer season, it is upgraded back to a 777 on Aug 24th. It must be that they need an extra 777 for the summer season on an international flight out of MIA. So Aug 23rd is the last day AA299 sees a 757.

Your thread title is very misleading. AA is not dropping the 777 whatsoever.

Between July 2nd and August 23rd, which also happens to be when entertainment industry traffic falls off a cliff, it will operate a seasonal daylight to Buenos Aires.

That being said - while that is the current plan - no equipment schedules past 01JUL10 are finalized, so check back again in four weeks.

It all depends on how one defines "drop"

So, what about the "protection" that the MIA-LAX 777 provides for the NRT-LAX flight? They're just going to go without the "insurance" for those 2 months it appears....

We will know at the end of April when equipment schedules for 02JUL10-23AUG10 are published. But yes, if so needed, AA will go without the back-up 777 for LAX-NRT.

From time to time, the 777 has been taken off MIA-LAX and then it returns again. It's basically just for keeping a 777 flying during downtime from deep South American flying. Usually, a 763 is deployed when the 777 isn't on the route.

On a good note, however, DFW-CDG and DFW-MAD will be flown using 777s this summer, which brings much-needed capacity to some transatlantic markets other than LHR for a change!

It is far more than that.

It provides three-class service in a heavy-premium demand market, it provides a back-up aircraft in case something goes wrong with the LAX-NRT plane which meets up with it and it provides important cargo capacity in a key cargo market.

Whoa - that's awesome! Does anyone know the exact start/end dates for the 777 service from DFW to CDG and MAD? Also, is capacity being cut elsewhere to make this possible?

Right now:

DFW-MAD shows a daily 777 from Apr 06 to Aug 23.
DFW-CDG shows a daily 777 from Jun 10 to Aug 23.

Not sure where the 777s are coming from, since all other routes that are usually on the 777 are staying 777. But so far SABRE is showing some MIA-GRU frequencies, about 3 of them, will be flown with a 763. It's possible they're coming from MIA for the summer.

This is probably the 777 that is needed to run the daytime MIA-EZE flight in JUL and AUG

2 out of 3 MIA-GRU will be flown with 763.

Yep, so far at MIA for the summer, AA will deploy the B772s on:
MIA-JFK daily
MIA-GRU daily
MIA-EZE 18x weekly
MIA-LHR 8x weekly
