Topic: Has LH Delayed The A380 On The NRT Route?

My Dad said he heard that the A380 has been pulled from under us this coming Friday. But I checked our booking and it is still listed as an A380.

More concerning is that if they simply haven't updated their booking system yet, what is this going to do to our seat assignments? I'm going to spit tacks if I don't get my window seat!

You can try to complain. But as my 12 years airoprt experience has learned me, a seat assignment is never 100% confirmed. Any equipment change can result in a seat change, and you can't do anything about it.

You bought a ticket, so accepted a transportation contract from point A to point B. Not a single part of the contract guarantees you a certain seat.

Anyhow, I hope you get your seat as requested, but do not count on any compensation if you don't get it.

Hint: try to check in online. Normally, flights are open for online check-in +/- 23 hours before departure. If you check-in at the opeing of the flight, you could still have a lot of choice of available seats.

Just something to keep in mind. By the looks of things, the germans are looking very good at the WC. if they win it, you can bet a LH A380 will be picking up the team in S.Africa. So most likely, whatever route the A380 is scheduled to fly on that day (or day before), will suffer an equipment change.

I didn't say I was going to make a fuss. I just said I'd be spitting tacks.

It's defo worth a try; I booked a trip to the US and travel next month, one of the legs was a B753 when I booked then got switched to a B738. I rang DL, chatted with the nice lady, explained I was an airplane geek and she switched my flight to the earlier one which is now a B753! Connections work better for me as a result too!

Give it a go, it won't hurt .... good luck!

EDIT: BTW, just checked Amadeus, LH710 FRA - NRT on July 9th still showing A388 on there ....  crossfingers

When I booked it it was done as a 744 so I have little ground even if I did want to not be English about it.

Sounds like it might be okay but will have to wait and see.

On a general point though, LH and other A380 operators have made a big deal about offering this aircraft and they have even gone as far as to advertise flights specifically for it. This then really does limit they're ability to downgrade as casually as they might do on other flights because they were offering the aircraft as part of the product not just a seat in general.

Shouldn't that job be done by the second A380 for Lufthansa before entering into regular service?

It has definetly something to do with the german soccer team. If they will loose against Spain on Wednesday, they still have to play the small final on Saturday.

If they beat Spain, they play the Sunday final with a late evening departure from JNB.

The captain of the inaugural flight to JNB, Mr. Jürgen Raps, said shortly before landing, that LH would really like to pick them up in JNB with that plane (source: a spiegel article)

I don't know the LH A380 flightplan. But maybe a NRT-flight on Friday would not be back in FRA in order to make it on to JNB for Sunday.

Doesn't matter if we make the final or not. The world cup was already very successful for us.

Best Regards

Tom

I hate to have to agree with you!!

I fly LHR-FRA quite a lot and I wish LH would do a AF and put the A380 on that route a few times when there was an equipment change.....if only!

that would be doable for sunday but not for the less favored option saturday (which will be decided on wednesday  ).

Ask LH for a fee voucher. If, and bookmakers give it a 50% chance now, the cup comes to FRA, this will be an advertisement for LH and Airbus worth an A380. D-AIMB isn't ready by then?

And it will be even more so when the cup is sitting on the LH A380 back to FRA   . Joking aside though, the general consensus here is that it indeed has been a very successful world cup for us, and I think LH will try to capitalise on that even if we play on Saturday by pulling out all the stops to make sure the A380 is the aircraft that brings "Jogis Jungs" back home from a successful appearance.

I think scheduling wise it would work out either way, as at this point I think they return home Sunday night whether they are in the final or not. I am not sure whether that leaves enough "wiggle room" for LH to be happy though. If something happens and the plane is stuck in NRT or FRA for whatever reason, there may not be enough time to get things in proper order before the plane is scheduled to fly to South Africa.

If available, then yes, I'd expect them to do that but since it hasn't been delivered yet and the flight home is in less than a week I'm not seing that happening.

Also it seems Frau Merkel has been keeping the Luftwaffe VVIP fleet busy too.

"Mutti" seems to bring luck. Didn't find out yet which plane she used - anybody knows?

Yes, her and the now famous red-blazer have done some WM-related travelling. Still, it is funny the candid shots that come through in the papers:

If you are on LH710 to NRT then it's still listed as A380 operated (for now!)

Had better not be too successful. I drew Holland. I could win £40.

If LH replaces the A380 for a B744 on that day and you really want to fly A380 then call Lufthansa and see if they will re-schedule you at no charge if that fits in with your travel plans. LH might be willing to do this as the ground staff will probably be facing a big overbooking headache in Frankfurt Airport if they 'downgrade' to a smaller aircraft at such notice.

Certainly! Although this is a one day only flights and it seems that I might not be able to be away that day.

99 Euros ex-MUC for a center/aisle Economy seat is reasonable and the money goes to charity.

Not a window seat (sold 199 Euros) but I flew over the Alps heaps of times that I wouldn't feel it necessary to have a window seat.

It seems that they will only start selling the Economy seats on the 7th of July so that's tomorrow.
First and Business are already out for e-sale.

Y Class was already sold out completely yesterday in the late afternoon. J Class seats (aisle and window) are still available, just like aisle F Class seats.

Btw - D-AIMB will be officially named "München" on that day and it seems the first sightseeing flight (LH380) will be the plane's first ever flight with passengers.

On a related note of honkin' aircraft, what are the FRA authorities like on photography? Are they as fussy as BAA security?
