Excerpt: SHANGHAI, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Air China Ltd said it had agreed to buy four 777-300ER aircraft from Boeing for a total basic price of $1.15 billion to expand fleet capacity.

Another new customer for the 77W.

Good news for the B77W family, but disappointing news for the B747-8.

Congrats Boeing!

I could care less about the 748i. Glad to see another 77W customer. The 748i is great put it's sort of a "seen it before" type aircraft for me ( a la the original 747). I just figure that 15-20 years down the road—perhaps even sooner—Boeing will have enough justification to come up with their own full double-decker to either compete with or replace aging A380s.

Existing customer according to Wiki: 15 777-300ER ordered on 16 July 2008, to replace 744s and 343s.

Deliveries (of the first 15) scheduled for 2011-15.

Well, keep looking towards LH and KE, then. They will be flying the 748i. I'd venture as far as to say that there are possibly a good chunk of potential 748i customers, but they are taking the "wait and see" approach and letting LH and KE be the test dogs, for the aircraft. If LH and KE report good news with the aircraft, I'm sure we'll see some major orders from additional carriers.

Seems that Wiki information is not true as no article on the internet about this Air China 4 x 777-300ER order mentions that Air China already has an outstanding order for the 777-300ER. I have also never read about Air China ordering the 777-300ER in the past...

Is there any LR in CA's plans?
CA needs to reach nonstop its farthest markets like Brazil.

If you go on Boeing's website and do a user-defined report, you'll find it. Was signed in 2007.

Boeing's Customer Summary for Air China shows an order for 15 777-300ER dated 14 Nov 2007.

Also this news article from July 2008 has some more info:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2008-07/16/content_6852167.htm

"Air China Ltd said it and wholly-owned unit Air China Import and Export Co have jointly signed an agreement to buy 45 aeroplanes from Boeing Co. In a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the company said the order breaks down into 15 Boeing 777s and 30 Boeing 737s."

I think this order is also linked to the recent change of the 787-8 to 787-9 aircraft by Air China.

Businessweek is reporting that the four new 77W aircraft were purchased at a "significant" discount, I think this may have been to do with delay compensation for the 787s.

Thanks I found the Boeing link now, couldn't find it before. In any case, it is great to see another 77W flying for another airline. Now where's that A388 order.....

Apart from LAX where will these 77Ws be flying first?

I'm a true aviation enthusiast and I do not want any more 747s, or A380s, or any double-deckers for that matter. They are ugly and hideous.

Bash me all you want, but the Mighty Tripple Seven is the quintestence of the aviation eye candy to me.

I think there isn't much of an alternative if you need a lot of payload range within a few yrs, congratulation to Boeing. I would not be surprised to see a few more 777W orders from China.

I guess most people like diversity when it comes to planes. With the Trijets gone, the quads and double-deckers, and maybe the t-tails are the only interesting ones left. All other are just "BUTS". Boring ugly twins.

EJet, MRJ, SSJ, A32X, 737, CSeries, MS-21, C919, 767, A330, 777, A350, 787. Nice planes, but they all look the same. One shape fits all sizes. B O R I N G !

I guess anywhere they fly the 744 or 74E; SFO, JFK and LAX to name a few. I don't think CA fly the 744/74E to Europe currently but I could be wrong.

So, while Airbus gave away free A330 for every A380 delay ( common a.net prejudice) now we see Boeing giving away free 77W for every 787 delay. Bad buisiness. Joke aside, congrats to B and Air China.

You love long fat sausages? For me, the 764 looks far more elegant than the 77W.

Conversion from 787-8 to 787-9, solving the non delivery of 787-8 problem then 3 days later an order for 4x777W for delivery next year? Reeks of a compensation deal.

Its bad, bad business filling up the production line with discount frames especially on a product that you sell for a premium, the 77W has been a cash cow for Boeing and GE in the past.
