Brilliant news. No more arguments trying to get TWO drinks chits from the lounge attendants.

Make mine a double!

UAL flyers are going to enjoy this merger...

About time they improved the product, always found US airlines to have mean rules and poor offerings in the lounges.

RCC's have had free Wi-Fi for members some time now with T-mobile.

Just had a debate with a guy in the SFO Presidents Club last week... he was grousing that in a week, we'd no longer be enjoying free drinks. I told him he shouldn't bet on that.

But didn't you have to get a code to log on? CO has had free wi-fi with no access code. I remember having to get a code at the RCC in Denver last year.

The code is your membership #.
So no change really for members which are the core users of the facility.

This is awesome news!!!! Now I can drink solid for free from the time I take off, connect, RCC, second flight and then land and RCC again!!! I'm serious...awesome! (This all assume upgrade clears...almost every flight so far since UDU came out!)

I just hope they ditch the Red Carpet Club name. To me the name sounds like a cheesy 1970s club complete with shag carpeting and flocked wallpaper.... blech.

Yeah, how nice of a policy was that? "Welcome to the Red Carpet Club nice Star Alliance lounge network customer. Enjoy our facility. OH, but you can't use the wi-fi."

Now, this is Continental's idea of service:

"Welcome to the Presidents Club. Enjoy our facility and amenities. Period."

I am glad for this change, as an AC flier you get used to the Maple Leaf Lounges with the hot soup, good spread of cheeses etc. and free drinks. This will improve things at LGA etc. when bad weather or delays happen and the Red Carpet Lounge is the one to use.

Only those with a RCC membership number. If you were Star Alliance Gold traveling on an international itinerary in C or F, you received a one-time T-mobile card for WiFi access inside the club. All other non-RCC members were not entitled to the T-mobile cards (though some RCC agents still gave them out) and thus had no free WiFi inside the club.

Or is it going to be the Presidents Club is the one to use?   We shall see.

Will the age of admission to RCCs be 21 instead of 18 now as a result of free drinks?

Alcohol was already served in the RCCs free of charge (two chits per person on an international itinerary, if I remember the rules correctly), and I'm not sure there even was an age of admission, judging from the fact that my son has been in RCCs, with me, since he was 4 or 5 (but he was never given a chit, of course!).

I'm talking about having a RCC membership or getting a day pass to enter. IIRC you can bring a guest if you're a *A Gold regardless of his/her age

Pretty likely the age of membership, not admission, will be raised to 21, where it already is on the Continental side.

Will the age limit also apply to day passes?

My initial thought on reading the thread title . . .why weren't they already offering this???? Welcome to 2010 United.

Currently you are required to be 18 years or older unless you are accompanied by an adult. A 17 year old flying international business class does not get access to the club.

To be fair, AA didn't offer this either up until a couple weeks ago.

Tried finding this on the FAQ section on COs web-site but with no luck, so if anyone can answer the question could you please IM me. When flying on either UA or CO before the merger is completed, do Star Gold members get free upgrades (space permitting) to economy+ or F while flying domestic with UA or preferred seating, F with CO domestic? If so with what booking classes?
