I'm surprised that nobody has posted or commented on this as of yet. Did a few Searches and came up with zilch on the subject.

http://www.blogsouthwest.com/blog/the-end-era

Blog Exerpts:

That said, the NBA and Southwest Airlines were unable to come to a mutually beneficial agreement to extend our partnership.
...
With this decision, we have to repaint Slam Dunk One. It will soon be getting a new paint job

I actually had the opportunity to ride Slam Dunk One a few years ago on a short PVD-PHL flight. In addition to the special scheme (with its unique orange bubbles for the basketball), team logo decals of all the NBA teams were applied on the overhead bin doors (these will probably have to be scraped off as well).

Get your photos of this plane in this scheme while you can.

I had a feeling this would happen. The paint was already starting wear and I figured it's due for a repaint in the next couple years anyway. Sad news, but not surprising.

It does look pretty faded in that third photo the OP showed.

Maybe they'll do one for the NFL as a replacement.

When I first saw Slam Dunk One back in 2005, I had the same feeling, that this would be a "one time only" type of deal. Although I will miss Slam Dunk One ( Still morning the loss of SI One   ) This is Southwest Airlines, its only a matter of time before we introduce something new and captivating

Quite honestly, I'm surprised that "Bags Fly Free One" hasn't happened yet.

Anyone want to guess what the NBA's new official airline might be? DL? UA? AA? US? F9? B6? NK?

I have never seen this aircraft but the orange bubbles on the basketball really is impressive. Very sad I will never see this livery being an NBA fan.

I do look forward to the "Bags Fly Free" scheme. That should look good too as Southwest's special liveries always look good in my opinion.

Same here my friend. Let's hope the NBA will approach another airline for promoting the NBA. I also like the AirTran 717 Orlando Magic livery. Nice livery and one of the best NBA teams out there!!!

Thanks didn't know it would be just a small sticker. Even so, that small sticker is a very well done too, marketing wise. Excellent work from Southwest.

WOW! Ijust flew this bird on Sep 28 TPA-JAX. The overhead bins are all labeled with NBA teams. My 1st and only flight on WN special livery.

Aren't there some planes with a bags fly free sticker near the cargo hold? See below:

Coming to think of it, maybe WN will repaint an entire aircraft to promote the "Bags fly free" service?

As been address before, WN is NOT going to come up with another special livery for N224WN. This plane will be repainted back into the original colors.

A Bags Fly Free Plane is unlikely due to the fact of the stickers on the current planes they have, also address and shown earlier.

Don't get the hopes up boys and girls, nothing is going to come out of N224WN except a regular livery, WN has told the employees this.

I flew on that plane almost 2 years ago. It was still sporting the Seattle SuperSonics logo inside (after Seattle had moved). Was that ever changed to the Thunder?

I flew this bird on one of my zillions of flights from SNA to OAK. I noticed there was a lot of orange near the entrance when I boarded in SNA and had to definitely check it out form the terminal after we arrived in OAK. Sorry to hear it's going.

So in just over a year, we lose Silver One (N629SW) and Slam Dunk One (N224WN). The blog post says N224WN will be receiving "a new paint job" not anything about Canyon Blue. Hopefully, that's a little allusion to something new coming. I probably should not hold my breath though.

How many times do I need to repeat this?!

N224WN will be repainted back into the original colors, there will be NO NEW paint scheme for N224WN.

The wording you brought up, was mentioned on the employee site, and she said that it was indeed worded wrong, and that it will be back in normal colors.

I repeat once and for all..N224WN WILL NOT RECEIVE A SPECIAL PAINT JOB, IT WILL BE IN CANYON BLUE!!!

*faints*

Silver One was orginally polished ( just like AA's scheme ), however because that became to expensive to maintain, she became "Gun Metal" and then "Toothpaste" O-N-E. Since WNs 25th anniversary has been long gone, hence no need for Silver One anymore. However she still wears the Silver One sticker!

Slam Dunk was to celebrate the partnership between NBA and Southwest, since that's no longer true, we loose Slam Dunk One.

This isn't a "trend" or a "sign of things to come". You wont see us loose our state planes unless we don't fly into any of those states anymore ( which is highly unlikely).

Like I said before, Southwest has been creative in the past and will most defiantly continue to do so in the future.

Triple Crown One was done to honor the employees after "winning" the triple crown for 5 years in a row. On the overhead bins are the names of all the employees when the aircraft was originally painted. So the paint scheme is a one time deal. As for Silver One it was polished when it first came out but the interior was different as wwll. The seats were maroon leather, which was an improvement from the cloth seats that SWA had at that time.
