From the Press of Atlantic City (Oct.27)

"Gordon said two airlines are interested in starting international service at the airport, but she declined to identify them while talks continue. She said Caribbean destinations would probably be targeted first."

It would be a boon to ACY if WN decided to stay on after the FL merger, SJTA folks need to be talking to WN.

Doesn't Spirit fly to ACY? They have a decent Caribbean offering out of Florida, so my bet would go to them.

With the operational limitations at PHL and EWR, ACY seems like a good "old school" WN destination, decent catchment area, little competition etc. If WN can graft ACY flights into MDW, BOS and Florida along with ATL, ACY could proabaly support a 10 flight-a-day WN operation and hopefully build from there.

I would assume that there will be too much overlap between PHL and ACY's traffic. Therefore, I'd be surprised if WN decides to increase its operation at ACY.

However, I am extremely excited to hear the news about ACY!

As far as int'l service, I don't see anything big there... my guess is someone like USA3000 moving their ops from PHL to ACY possibly. Looking forward to the expansion, it is a shame though we lost a whole summer because of this ridiculous lawsuit!!

I would bet the international airline interested in service is Air Canada Jazz. I would guess the 392 mile flight to Toronto would be great for a CRJ short distance and maybe they saw enough potential from westjet to fill a smaller aircraft? The biggest competition Canada-ACY has is the car as alot of families drive to the Jersey shore in the summer.

Whats funny is that Newark is closer to Montreal on gcmapper but Toronto is closer to ACY on gcmapper.com.

Since Toronto (YYZ) has US Customs Pre-clearance, ACY does not need to be an international airport to receive flight from YYZ. WestJet flies to EWR currently, and I don't see them moving farther away from New York City. The only possibility would be Porter Airlines out of Toronto Island (YTZ). I don't believe YTZ has US Pre-clearance.

The article doesn't say that both flights would need the customs facility. It simply says that the customs facility would allow for direct international flying. I bet its spirit looking at a Caribbean route CUN would be my guess, and AC or Porter looking at a Canadian op

I really hope Southwest choose to keep ACY and maybe add some flights to BWI and MDW. Spirit is starting ORD service soon that might make MDW a little less attractive. BWI would be great for some connection opportunities.

Westjet tried and failed at ACY recently didn't they?

Yes... it was a 2130 departure which left no opp for connections... also they ran it from Oct-Apr instead of the busy season... according to the BTS, it ran 64% in March and 65% in Apr, then they left. I would like to see AC do the run in a Dash-8.

I think BWI is too short of a hop for a 737 or 717.. I would love MDW and BNA , but having both BNA and ATL may be counter-productive. I would just be happy for them to stay.

If Southwest left because of the overlap of PHL and ACY traffic (which is understandable) and the goal of just shoring up PHL, I'd hope B6 would think of going to ACY. This would target the ACY base that doesn't want to fly NK.

Does WN service any markets with just 4-5 departures, and those 4-5 departures are to multiple cities (i.e. not like the 5x CRP-HOU), on the lines of 2x, 1x 1x.

I think at the time the ACY Expansion Coalition wanted ORD service and offered subsidy for it (which NK will be getting), B6 could have considered ACY-ORD with connection to LGB. NK will offer ACY-ORD with connection to LAS.

But that wouldn't link ACY to the rest of the B6 network as B6 doesn't service there to begin with. Perhaps B6 didn't feel the ACY market could support both FL and B6, as carriers offering 1 stop connections to the country, and thought maybe FL would offer ACY-BOS eventually giving FL full domestic access (North and South). But with FL's future there no longer certain, B6 could certainly look back into it: Maybe 2x ACY-BOS with an AM flight out of ACY, and 1x ACY-FLL and/or MCO, or with a stop: perhaps ACY-RIC with connection to FLL and/or MCO.

One would still get assigned seating and leg room, even if 1 stop.

And regarding ORD:
If NK has picked up the subsidy for a route (like ORD), does it mean another carrier that is interested in the same route wouldn't be able to get the subsidy?

Information on the ACY Coalition:
http://www.sjta.com/acairport/news_item.asp?publicationID=20&ID=1645

An article from the Press of Atlantic City in late September (now archived) listed the subsidy amount AirTran is getting for the ACY-ATL service. NK could just pick that up, but that wouldn't offer really any of the value for almost full domestic connection service (with exception of Boston) that AirTran was offering.

I really hope WN decides to add a few flights to ACY and stay with the market.

If B6 were to add ACY now I would imagine its only if WN were to leave. I think that IAD would be a good fit for them to add. They get the DC market and can offer connections to MCO, FLL, CUN, OAK, and LGB.

STL could be a nice option also, lots of connection opportunities.

WN could fly either plane easily from BWI-ACY no problem. USair use to fly 757s, 320s, 321s on LGA-PHL for years before they needed to secure slots and switched to a constant shuttle operation.
