Having a look at it again I can honestly say its probably the most uncreative awful new schemes of this era, Its an all white plane with HORRIBLE huge messy font down its side and thats it.. there is nothing else to it.. What a tragic attempt. Air Finland won battle of the colourschemes.

F F F F .. Four f's on either side of the plane.. Tail, Engine, Engine, wingtip.

I kinda like the tail though and the navy color. Not too bad. A bit boring but it could be worse.

Horrible.

The current livery isn't exactly exciting but it's smart and tidy and at least has some sort of identity to it. This attempt looks like an interim scheme awaiting the proper livery, surely an airline with Finnair's history could come up with something better than this?!

Hopefully this isn't the finished product but as a start for a new livery I think it looks very promising indeed.

People are saying on Flightforum.fi, a Finnish equivalent for A.net that this livery would indeed be an interim livery so that this ex-AF bird can be taken into use. http://www.flightforum.fi/forum/index.php/topic,96891.20.html

The new livery is supposed to be revealed on the new A330 in the beginning of december. A lot more will be changed then than just the ac livery. meaning uniforms and cabin interiors.


Let's just hope it is so, that this is just a livery for this bird so it can be operated in AY's fleet for the time being!

   What the hell!?    I saw this and I thought Adria... very similar. One thing is having a bland or a boring livery; but having a bland ugly livery is really, really bad. Someone should be shot over this one.   

I like the idea of the billboard title. But it fails to stand out due to the complete lack of color.

UGLY. Whoever supoorted this should be set to prison for sabotage and a 500 Mio $ damage.

They have a new livery, which is near perfect.

The font used for the giant characters is very aggressive, and the tail is stupid. Current tails are fine, and if the want larger side letters there are one million fonts that look better

I also find it stupid to make the tiles so big that they are partly hidden by the wings to any potential observer.

I really like the contrast between the current blue tail and the white snow.

The key to liveries these days is to represent the corporate image and be lite and easy to maintain. (By lite I mean - few colors to keep the weight down.)

I actually kinda like it.   (you guys will probably all hunt me down for writing this   ) However it will only look good if the plane is always clean. I however also think they can just keep their current livery. Nothing wrong with it.

Excuse me but if you change your livery do it right. That new Finnair livery looks cheap and it sucks. They could have done a much better job than that and keep it lite, as you say, at the same time.

Oh shock horror people having an opinion on an AIRLINE livery on an Airline photography website. Why would people say something looks good when it is bland and uncreative. Its basicly a white plane with 4.. 5 Blue F's on it.

As for an answer to will there be one anyone likes .. lol im struggling to think of many good new liveries but AIR FINLAND comes to mind. Looks a whole lot better then this.

The font totally reminds me of Adria, which is okay but really, really, the TAIL! I'm okay with the whole Eurowhite thing, but this is wayy to much.

lol bit harsh.. seen alot of charter airlines with nicer colours then alot of the so called big boys. I agree finnairs scheme was ok .. if they added another shade of blue to the fuselage or belly something along the lines of what SN Brussels did it would detract from the bland white plane.

Apart from the titles I think it could well be the final scheme but in reverse. So, the tail, engines and winglets will be blue with a white logo.

The actual one has never been part of my favorites.
This blue tail with a so-called stylished "F" and a clear circle around it... Gosh it means nothing!
To me it's one of the less inspired liveries around, but this one looks good.
I like the giant Logo all the way down the fuselage, and the simple, but sharp "F" on the tail.
It's simple, sleek, modern, smart...
A livery everyone can recognise, and it's just the way it has to be.

You're right, and I have no problem with people sharing their views. But when people say such silly things (perhaps not specifically on THIS thread) as "what were you thinking when you came up with with?" and "what a big mistake" (we've all seen such comments on here), one can't help but think WHY changing the livery was a mistake? People, people, calm down. You can be sure that when AY will be launching their new livery they are going to make a big fanfare about it - at least here in Finland. Thus I'm inclined to think that this is not the real new livery. Their PR manager Taneli Hassinen actually told today in the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper that this is not necessarily the real new livery and that the new livery will be published probably only after new year.

I like the fuselage with the big and bold font, but for a contrast I (personally) would prefer the tail to be the dark blue and the stylized F to be white...but that's just me. I don't like the "New" United livery, but I don't get a say in it either...LOL

Yes, this is NOT the final livery. Finnair said today the final look is still "under work" and probably not seen until January(?), due the possible strike.

I can think of one positive thing to say about that livery. On the ground, or in the air within a mile, a pilot told to follow Finnair will have no problem doing so.

I think that all that needs to happen is to send a link to this thread to the board and then they will soon change their direction lol, this is not a very nice livery at all so as has already been stated lets hope this is a very sort lived interim livery.

OMG AY..... It hurt my eyes more than the "new" United livery before UA changed to the current font...

The irony is, that super-sized, blatant, in-your-face billboard titling is going to make everyone ask, "Why the hell should I fly this tacky airline???". This livery is horrendously, atrociously terrible at best. I honestly couldn't believe it when I saw it. It's almost as if all of the worlds airlines are in a never-ending battle to one up each other in the battle for the cheapest, most uninspiring, ugliest livery. It looks like this livery was designed using Windows 3.0. Finnair leads the pack with the worst new livery to date. Yuck!

Anyways, as HELyes stated, it is not the final livery. I remember National Airlines (cargo) had that plain white 747 with only "NATIONAL and a big blue parallelogram then weeks later they unveiled the final and stunning livery.

This new livery is horrible. Way too much white especially on the tail where you can notice and what's up with the in your face writing.

I've also never had a problem with the current livery which has a nice blend of colours and in my opinion is one of the best liveries in Europe.

Hopefully AY will rethink this livery and change it to make it look more appealing.

Might be too expensive and I believe Finnair will also be revealing a new cabin product and staff uniform so waiting for their latest A330 delivery makes more sense so they can do this all at one rather than with this ex Air France aircraft.

I have no idea. I suppose it's better to have some sort of corporate identity on an aircraft than none, but this currently "livery" looks like an "accountants special".

I experienced similar with another client. I designed a colourful livery. It was accepted and the plane sent to the spray shop. What came out of the spray shop was but a shadow of the intended design. Some accountant had gotten hold of the spray shop and ordered them to "simplify" the livery to save on paint and labour costs.

That annoyed me.

It was a great pleasure designing for Air Finland recently. Now my team and I look forward to what the competition has created for Finnair. We're wondering whether the full livery would look that different than the "interim" one as on show at Skyliner-aviation.de...

Air Finland recently re-designed its livery: the sunny "Air Finland" retro logo had to be continued while, at the same time, a stronger "Finland" presentation must be achieved. The old and new livery:

See, that's a livery. Thought, design, class and presence.

As said, I am quite sure this is indeed an interim paint job, just to get the plane in ops.

But my question is, why go through all that trouble of coming up with "a real interim livery"? By this I mean, usually interim livery is just plain white plane with maybe the logo and name taped somewhere on the fuselage. To come up with something like this, that actually could be a real livery (of really bad taste!), especially only weeks before the company is supposed to reveal their new corporate identity, can harm the company's image seriously. It shows bad judgement from the management, in my opinion.

But if one lives by the rule "any publisicity is good publicity", after reading this thread anyway, Finnair just became World renowned   I don't think any of the people who have participated in this thread will miss the launch of the new corporate livery of Finnair. And everyone will hold their breath thinking: "Was it or was it not an interim livery....!!!"

My bet is, the billboard style titles are part of the new livery, as is the predictable F.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the full livery featuring a clean belly colour, perhaps sweeping up onto the tale. The F on the tail would probably be white in that case.

This topic reminds me of a B747-400F not so long ago!

The livery was well spoken on this forum how ugly it was. Then, few weeks / months later the final livery popped up and everyone was in love!
