Qatar Airways will soon fly non stop to EZE and open up two more destinations in China. EZE is currently served by a B777-200LR via GRU (with full 5th rights).

Qatar Airways has 23 weekly flights to China, PVG (daily), PEK (4 weekly), CAN (5 weekly), HKG (daily).

Al-Baker has said that the route is very successful and will open the route nonstop if the time has come. I think the 787 should come as soon as possible for any other expansion plans. Ojas, do you know how many 777 will QR recieve this month and in 2011?

I wonder whats takeing them from making Beijing Daily???

QR is slated to receive a total of 3 B77Ws (A7-BAM/BAN/BAQ) soon and 2 B77Ls which they ordered at Berlin this year. Apart from that I wonder what interim measures QR adopt to tackle the delay of the B787.

Earlier I believe it was the bilateral, but with additional 2 new cities I'm sure PEK and CAN will go daily.

The biggest problem QR faces is aircraft shortage.

I wonder if GIG might come into the picture as onward travel from GRU.

I think it might have been better if they did DOH GIG EZE with a B 77L rather than risk it with EZE terminators.

DOH-GRU-EZE is currently daily, isn´t it? Could it be the same for DOH-EZE?

Cheers

That does seem very surprising so soon. I flew this route twice in October and the majority of passengers on the EZE-GRU portion were just flying that leg. I think there were something like 60 and 90 passengers on the two flights travelling DOH-EZE, which doesn't make for a very full 77L. Cargo could be key though, and seats up front will no doubt demand a large premium as the only non stop option between Argentina and the ME.

My cabin crew friend in QR did 5 trips on this flight so far. The passengers taking off and landing into Doha have always been bordering 150 passengers.

Is that just passengers from EZE-DOH though, or GRU and EZE? I should hope it's not the whole way, the crew I spoke to on board suggested that 200 was an average load for the flight.

As I said it is landing into and taking off from Doha, don't know the split. But 3 out of 5 of his trips were in July/August when the route had just started. GRU - EZE was full on all occasions, but he cannot specifically remember the number of EZE - DOH passengers.

I took the flight from GRU to EZE just last week and I can only say that the flight was absolutely empty. In the whole back section there were no more than 15 people. Most of the passengers got off in GRU and very few got on there...

What kind of traffic does this flight attract (as for EK's GRU-DXB) ? I guess not VFR...

I had thought of South America to Asia traffic. Do Brazilians and Argentinians need a visa to transit or visit places like UAE or Qatar ?

Thx.

Perhaps they could try DOH-GIG-SCL with the 77L. I wonder when the Gulf carriers will notice GIG.

Not as far as I know, just the same visa on arrival that other nations are issued, which is free if you have a long layover and hotel accommodation provided by QR.

What will the flight time be from DOH-EZE? This has to be one of the longest flights in the world?

It will be the 5th longest route followed after EWR-SIN, LAX-SIN, ATL-JNB, DXB-LAX.

Also in the article, QR will announce two new routes to China:

"Responding to questions about its Chinese destinations, Al Baker said his airline will soon announce two new routes to the country."

My guesses are XMN and CTU.

Not if the connecting time is less than 8 hours.

They've got their basics covered, so the two new destinations should be exciting ones! They'll be the first of the big 3 ME airlines in whatever destination they choose most likely!

That's still not too great considering its a 77L, no? Either that or yields and or cargo must be great ex EZE...

Quoting Flying Belgian (Reply 13):

For EK it's a lot of connecting traffic to Japan and also decent traffic to other points in Asia, the Middle East and North (East) Africa.

Yes, I wonder when that will be. Maybe QR is delaying starting LAX now that EK has boosted its DXB-LAX service and TK (who will offer connections at IST for the Near and Mid East) will also be entering the route soon.

With the fares they offer on GRU-EZE / EZE-GRU its not a surprise the high loads, but the schedule back from EZE is not the best one. They mention in Brazil the average LF of 74% but was not clear from where it comes as in general the South American leg performs very well in loads.

Agree with you as Rio could bring an interesting mix of business and leisure. There's a true lack of flights to Asia from Rio.

QR should make DOH-EZE non-stop, which appears likely, and add a GIG tag-on to DOH-GRU-GIG.

Interpolating from DOH-GRU I would put it at about 17h 25m with an ESAD very close to 8000nm, probably a little more than DXB-LAX.

Doesn't change anything do that. GIG is closer to DOH and will be a back track as well as, QR already offer interline agreements. Will be interesting to see how QR will deal with schedule. A one-stop flight will not be anything different from having no service.

IMO is a waste of equipment to do this route non-stop.

I´m suer that QR can fly that planes to places where they will make a lot of more money than EZE.

I don´t see this happening.

But we will see...

you would think QR would want to jump into LAX ASAP to go head to head against EK, now that EK has a double daily.
