Topic: Philippine Airlines B777 To Serve Vancouver Username: jasp25 Posted 2010-12-17 13:06:32 and read 6762 times.Looks like a new 777 bird is coming to Vancouver in March!
Since Philippine Airlines in the time being cannot increase service to the US, this bird will probably fly MNL-YVR-MNL -- is that right?

aircraft to YVR, terminator on the B777, and the flight that operates MNL/YVR/LAS continue as a A340? |

And hopefully, sometime in 2011, PR116/117 (M-W-F) will begin operating MNL-YVR-SAN-YVR-MNL! (And I wouldn't personally care if it's a T7 or a 343!)

As soon as I read this, I knew this was posted by SANFan! hehehe you've been the most vocal advocate for MNL-XXX-SAN
flight. I admire your enthusiasm as I would like to see PR expand in north America.
But with SAN only a couple hours away from LAX, i doubt this would happen soon. We will probably see an increase MNL-LAX service before we could see MNL-SAN flight.
Is there a market capable of supporting a 200-seater plane between YVR-SAN-YVR, I wonder?

Agreed! I'll take any metal PR decides to send our way. I expect the safety audit issue start up again
sometime after the holidays.

Oh but to dream! PR116/117 are indeed out and back with no additional stops. |

I thought PR expressed interest in flying the MNL-YVR-SAN route, but that was a couple of years ago. Hence, the reason why SANFan is pushing the issue. The 777-300ER would be the better equipment out of SAN should the service become a reality.

I could see this happening sooner than you think. If PR is using 777-300ER's on most of the flights, then it's totally possible it could change over to all flights by next summer. I guess we'll have to see what happens.

PR applied for the route just before the Philippines was downgraded to CAT II.

Topic: RE: Philippine Airlines B777 To Serve Vancouver Username: PRFlyer Posted 2010-12-19 17:17:48 and read 4688 times.San Diego County has the second largest Filipino American population of any county in the nation, with over 145 Thousand Filipinos, alone or in combination according to the 2000 US Census (I think mostly active or former/retired Navy Personel). In addition, San Diego is the only metropolitan area in the U.S. where Filipinos constitute the largest Asian American nationality.
I believe they will route this flight as MNL-YVR-SAN-YVR-GUM-MNL to maximize the load. |

That's correct. I've heard they were very vocal in asking PR to start up service from SAN.

Exactly. It would be inadvisable, to say the least, for PR to start another route within less than 200 km from an airport they are already serving. And who wants to land in Guam on the way, anyhow?

The 77Ws were purchased to do LAX/SFO-MNL nonstop so I don't think you'll see the 77Ws in SAN anytime soon. Perhaps when they get their fifth and sixth one, they will fly only 77Ws to North America.
