Are all the newly built and "waiting for delivery" 787's stored in and around Everett? One unnamed source said that some were stored in Texas.....I know that 35 frames does take a lot of room---but Texas as a storage area?

To build on mdword1959's reply, Boeing has always planned to have the 787 and 747-8 test frames sent to Port San Antonio to have their testing equipment removed and be brought up to customer delivery specification. With PAE so busy with customer re-work, additional production frames are being sent to Port San Antonio to be prepared for customer delivery.

Not to nitpick, but the link you provided (thanks for that, BTW) lists the two aircraft as being at Lackland AFB in San Antonio and not SAT (San Antonio International). Is that accurate? If so I'm a bit surprised; I'd have expected the 2 787 frames to be at SAT for there's a lot of MRO work done there.

Boeing facility is at Port San Antonio at Kelly Field (SKF). So it's in San Antonio, Texas, but not at San Antonio International (SAT).

Most of the 787s that have left the factory have not flown and thus are stored at KPAE.

Some are stored just south of the Future of Flight Center, some are stored on taxiway A, some on the south ramp, some by the control tower, some in the ATS "pit" and some on the Boeing ramp. (see: http://flightaware.com/resources/airport/PAE/APD/AIRPORT+DIAGRAM/pdf)

On Thursday afternoon I finally snagged one (Royal Air Maroc) by the control tower and on Sunday morning, I shot three on taxiway A, which are all in the queue.

There are also a lot of 747-8Fs and a few 747-8is on taxiway A, by the control tower and on the Boeing ramp. I got good shots of several -8Fs on taxiway A on Sunday morning.

Do you mean RWY 11/29? TWY A parallels Rwy 34L/16R and is the main taxiway for aircraft using that runway.

There are 32 787s around PAE, and about 20 747-8s

They shuffle around quite a bit, but there are usually 10 or so aircraft on RWY11/29, 6 at Kilo North (By Future of Flight), 3-4 on the ramp by the tower, 3-4 outside ATS Hangar 3 and 4-5 in ATS Hangar 3. The rest are on the Boeing ramp, in the factory/paint hangars, in San Antonio for work (2 787s and 3 or 4 747s) or flight testing out of BFI.

It was painted well before their switch to the new color scheme. They will be repainted into the current JAL scheme before delivery.

Just a quick add on question. When are we going to start seeing frames roll out at the Charleston facility? I'm guessing we'll see some "stored" there too once they start rolling off the line.

Funny you should ask - this from today's Seattle Times.
I would think that once the type certificate comes through - and since Charleston is just coming on line - there will not be too much storage. Just the typical needs of an active line.

It's totally up to the customer; I'm sure Boeing will do whatever JAL requests.

One of the locals could probably update, but based on the Feb 15, 2011 photo date, maybe they held off pouring concrete over the winter, and perhaps it is complete now.

With concrete installation total installed cost at $2,000 or so per cubic meter if it was me, I'd only pour the sections where the wheels sat, not where the wings overlapped.

It is still a rather new expansion of the airport. I believe Boeing is only leasing it temporarily. I think the county wants to expand the airport in that area. It hasn't changed any since that photo, except I there is grass growing now.

If assembly and deliveries of the 748 & 787 proceeed as planned over the next year, it's likely only the main Boeing Ramp area will be necessary to amply accommodate the normal tempo of production at Boeing-Everett.
