Unfortunately for Mahan Air it appears that the US Department of Commerce has extended its ban on the Iranian carriers exports as a result of their acquisition and operation of export restricted US origin aircraft (I believe Boeing 747-400's).
Why doesn't Mahan Air show some humility and admit that they made a mistake by trying to circumvent the US sanctions and get rid of these troublesome 747's? Surely swapping them for some older model A340's / A330's would make life a lot easier and allow them to more freely expand their route network...?

IMO, it would not change the objective to close them down.

Do you really think that the objective is to close them down? I'm certainly no expert on the matter but I always understood that the objective of sanctions was to prevent stated countries from utilizing export restricted equipment?

Considering how many aircraft are export restricted, it seems to end up the same.

No doubt that the US will do all it can to squeeze out Iranian airlines.

The 744s are old, arent they allowed to lease 7 year old aircraft from a third party?
