Topic: MSY Numbers Up To Start '12 Username: MSYtristar Posted 2012-04-26 16:57:38 and read 1419 times.Passenger traffic for MSY for the month of January increased 2.9% to 661,584. That number made the airport the 37th busiest in the nation, falling in between BNA and AUS.
Airport.....Total Passengers
BNA.........699,672
MSY.........661,584
AUS.........659,886
January is generally a fairly slow month but the uptick in traffic this year could possibly be attributed to increased seasonal cruise ship traffic. In January, there were four ships operated by three different cruise lines departing New Orleans every week for the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Central America. |

N.O. Has been a very hot cruise departure point in the recent year or two and I see that expanding! Thus, air traffic will follow in its wake (no pun intended).

Yep...great to see.
The city has really been reinventing itself economically, and has been luring major corporations to set up shop in the area. Most recently announced was the news that G.E is bringing 300 employees to the city. New Orleans beat out Indianapolis and several major Southern markets to lure the office. The bio-science and medical industries are also expanding like crazy down there, as is the film/digital media industry. Rumors also abound that Google is going to be opening an office in the city as well.
Here's a new article/video talking about the current airport improvements...just released today.

Although a new terminal would be nice a $1B price tag seems a bit steep. Anybody have airline market share stats for MSY? |

Wasn't this all but announced at the Google afterparty during Entrepreneur Week?
New Orleans is open for business. My organization is more of less the anchor of the BioDistrict with the Cancer Center coming online in the next few months.

From what I understand, yes. I guess it just hasn't been officially announced yet. I have a friend who works in commercial real estate in the CBD and he keeps me updated on a bunch of stuff. I'm dying to move back to NOLA...
