My original thread regarding this topic is archived and closed so here it goes. Sure enough when looking at the arrival and departure monitors checking our flights at BWI, I noticed US took the gauntlet and has a non stop flight from BWI-MIA. I didn't see the times and not sure if this is daily or just weekends. At BWI as far back as I can remember there has always been at least two airlines that had a nonstop flight to MIA. What aircraft type takes out this flight? And it's only been three weeks since we terminated our once a day FL BWI-MIA flight.
While discussing BWI-MIA service this, is what I remember since I was a wee lad. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Airlines that had nonstop service from BWI-MIA

1. (Late 1950's till approx 1972) Eastern, National and Northeast
2. (1972 -1970) Eastern, National and DL* DL during the mid 70's had a flight that was BOS-BWI-FLL-MIA
3. (1980's) Eastern, People Express, and Piedmont Once Pan AM sucked up National it was ba bye to BWI.
4. (1990's to 2001) Eastern till it went under in 1991, US and AA
5. Post 911 to June 2012- FL and AA
6. The present: AA, US
I hope we can add us WN to this mix.

This flight is US1679 which seems to only operate on Saturdays, however it is not Non-Stop, it's just a through flight stopping in CLT and continuing to MIA

I remember National Airlines had one non stop to Miami through out the 1960s and 1970s. Other NA flights also stopped at DCA out of BAL on their milk runs to CHS-SAV-JAX and beyond and vice versa.

I for one hope WN enters MIA. I was down there this weekend for a wedding in the Coral Gables area, and it was very helpful to fly into MIA and not have to drive from FLL. But seeing as FL ended service on BWI-MIA a few weeks before my trip, I had to use AA and US to do it, and I'm not elite with them.

MIA needs to build a bridge directly from Concourse J to the "MIA Mover" station, so one doesn't have to spend days on people movers and walking to get there! Of course, it would be even better if rental cars were on the airport, as they should be, so one doesn't need to add another 30-35 minutes to one's trip getting to the remote facility. See RSW and MKE for examples of how rental cars should be handled.

Wish they would bring the buses back. The hike from D to the train to Rental Cars is painful. The AC in some of those corridors doesn't work. Also, a lot of the moving walkways are out of service as well.

Yeah I don't think US has served BWI-MIA since the 1990s.

AA serves it generally OK. 2x a day IIRC with 738s and 757. DCA gets the most to MIA with AA. IAD gets the least. UA also flies IAD-MIA but it's usually on CR7s and occasionally upgauged to 757 during peak times.

Very much agreed. My family and I flew into RSW for our summer vacation last year, and picking up the rental car (as well as dropping it off) couldn't have been easier. It's baffling why more airports don't simply build a garage across the street from the terminal and locate rental car pickup there, with premium parking on the upper floors.

BTW, OMA and IIRC, DSM have a similar sort of setup, where the rental desks are in the terminal but the cars are across the street in the garage. Very convenient to get your car and go.

Currently it's 3x daily with 738s. Not sure if 757s have been deployed on it before, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Jim,it's a lot better @ MIA than it used to be. I remember when they bussed you to each company's lot. Alamo's wasn't in the greatest neighborhood, either. Then you had to watch the signs to return them to their respective lot. I agree it's a hike to get there from the crappy J gates.
