It seems like there are enough 787s in service now to start a thread on the current and future routes for the 787. Please keep this discussion to actual routes currently in service or officially announced but not speculation over possible future routes.

Here is an initial stab from minimal research, please correct as necessary:

Current Routes

Sorry, I'm going to speculate, any route flown by a 767 is very likely to be flown by a 787 in the future.

The 787 will replace more 767 served routes than open new ones.

It's pretty much a no brainer.

LAN has officially listed the destinations that will receive B-787-8 services with-in one year as SCL, EZE, LIM, LAX, MAD, and FRA. The B-787-8 will also operate SCL-LIM.

Quote:
LAN announced –during the opening ceremony of the company’s display in the Fair that the destinations the 787 will fly to during its first year of operations will be Santiago, Buenos Aires, Lima, Los Angeles, Madrid and Frankfurt. Well the domestic routes are still in the ANA timetable and theyve been operating these routes for quite a while now, if they were just familiarization flights they would have ended by now wouldnt you think?

NH's domestic routes are permanent, not familiarization flights.
NH has seven 788s which two are int'l configured, four in a temporary domestic configuration, and the latest one JA808, I am not sure of the configuration. However, NH has no mention of the domestic configuration on its website, which makes me to conclude that aircraft too is in a temporary domestic configuration.
The permanent domestic configuration will have nine-abreast in economy. Most likely the next 788 will be delivered in this configuration.
Not sure how much longer the temporary domestic configuration is going to last. Some of those airframes are early production models, so they are probably marked for a permanent domestic configuration at a later date.

NRT-SEA is loaded as a 77W starting around July 25. No changover date announced yet. If UA departs from this route, as speculated by many, NH may keep it as a 77W.

Nothing official is out yet.

However, to my understanding, the shortlist of early destinations (through sources at the airline) is:
MEL-SYD
YVR
BOS

All would be ex-DEL. Nothing is confirmed though. The 787 will first operate domestic crew familiarization flights for the first few months.

Slight correction for you United'. SAN has not been really "officialized" yet by JAL; the month of the inaugural is set (December 2012) but no exact start date yet so no bookings happening either.

Trust me, there are a lot of us in San Diego who are waiting (patiently?) for the announcement...    Since we are approaching 6 months out now, I expect and hope we hear very soon!

Yes, I read about that. I think we need to add "to the extent possible" though. It might not be feasible to do the MEX-NRT leg nonstop all year long with full payload.

You can add to this list MEX-CDG, MEX-SCL and perhaps MEX-EZE (although I am a big proponent for MEX-EZE being operated by 77Es). Perhaps AM will reinstate MEX-BCN when the 788s arrive and, who knows, they might launch MEX-FCO too.

They have stated that the seven 788s that will be acquired and leased will take over all the routes currently served by 763ERs and 762ERs. Those routes are: MEX-SCL, MEX-EZE, MEX-CDG, and MEX-NRT (and MEX-BCN before it was suspended). With respect to NRT, I think AM has also stated they want to fly there and back nonstop to the extent possible.

All Nippon Airways does not fly 787 to PEK.

Three daily flights out/into PEK are operated by a mix of A320/B763 to NRT and B772 to HND.

Also, All Nippon Airways does not operate flights on 787 to/from OKA (Okinawa) but to OKJ (Okayama).

Other additions (already loaded) are ADD-HRE (Harare) and ADD-LUN (Lusaka) for Ethiopian. Boeing 787 service begins on 18SEP12 for HRE and 19SEP12 for LUN. The two routes will have 787 on alternate days with other equipment on the opposite days.

DEL-MEL/SYD (triangle) has been officially announced by AI, and preparations are going (staff being hired, catering contracts being awarded, slots applied for, etc).

According to their brochure, yes. The 787 will be operating 'selected flights' on these routes. However, as with most airlines we should see some shorter familiarisation flights before long haul starts.

Future Routes (Officially Announced but not Loaded)...

Hainan (HU) has applied to the DOT for permission to start PEK-ORD with the 788 in 2013. I'll leave it up to you whether this qualifies as an "official announcement".

UA IAH-AKL service is axed before they even fly it, this has been known for weeks,

This is an email i had on the 7 June from United,

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXX

Thank you for contacting United Airlines.  I regret the delayed response
to your e-mail. Due to the high e-mail volume we have received recently,
we were unable to answer your letter prior to today.  We are committed
to responding in a timely manner to our customers, and usually do so in
the order in which the communication is received.

A 10 percent reduction is planned beginning in the fall of 2012, for
Houston, TX (IAH),  including not flying our previously announced
service from IAH to Auckland, New Zealand. More information will posted
on our website regarding reduction in service at a later time.  Please
continue to check our home page under Important Notices at;   https://www.united.com/web/en-US/Default.aspx

A long way off, but KQ has announced plans to serve NBO-PER with 787s in the next five years.

The 787 will replace more 767 served routes than open new ones.

Well that is what BA is doing anyway.
The first B787 routes are all direct replacements for present B767 operations.

The 10 percent is seasonal, and IAH-AKL was not viable anymore.
