On the American Airlines FaceBook page it says:

So...any ideas? US/AA merger? Changes to AAdvantage?

I'm guessing it's some kind of branding, either onboard changes or airport/advertising rebranding. Exclusivity was just extended to December and Tom Horton is basically ignoring all requests from Doug Parker so I don't think it'll be anything merger related. Hopefully some enhancements to the onboard experience as that would be very much welcomed.

Well I hope the announcement is Jet Blue will be joining One World so my two favorite airlines will be together. Seriously doubt its gonna happen though. Guessing it has to do with a new livery or something. I'd be sad to see the silver birds go but they won't be able to polish the 787's and airbuses whenever they get them.

Yes because all major financial transactions are announced via a Facebook teaser post like that suggesting that you "like it if you want to hear it"

Obviously it's AA announcing that Delta is taking them over and they will be only flying a super md80 fleet and using eagle's 135/145 flights solely on flights longer than 2.5 hours.

On a somewhat unrelated note, the comments on their Facebook page are absolutely hilarious.

My hopes is that it has nothing to do with a merger, nor a branding change. I hope for financial help from a non-aviation related group (think Delta/Amex) that will eliminate all talks of layoffs.

my 2 cents are on a livery change. Usually when they say something "Exciting" it's some sort of change.

Most likely something far less exciting than anything our imaginations can come up with.

However, if AA is indeed going to revamp it's image/ livery, the time for that would be very soon.

I don't see this being a branding/image/livery announcement.

Why? Simple.

Their future as a corporate entity is in doubt as it is - so why would you go forward with that sort of "We're going it alone, and here's what we're going to look like!" campaign when so much is still up in the air that can change all of that?

Look for either something far less, or a full-blown merger announcement. Nothing in-between.

In most merger scenarios, its clear American would be the surviving brand. A brand new identity and livery would only help that notion.

This has been in the works for long time. They can't just put everything on hold to see what happens, it could be years.

Firming up the 787 order?

Knowing AA, it will be something goofy. Let's just hope it is something useful.

I'm sure it's something along the lines of...

- Orgasmatron service enhancements in premium cabins
- Bench style seating with 29" pitch in main cabin... 10USD for FA service... 20USD for lav usage

Yes, but current AA management may not ultimately be the ones making the decisions on what that branding might look like going forward. If US wants to buy them, don't you think they just MIGHT want a say in what they're buying might look like externally for the next 20-plus years?

I'm glad you are realistic about your expectations, because I don't think AA will be making an announcement for another airline even though there have been rumors of them joining forces, I doubt this is the "big news", I truly doubt it's that big of news at all, as most social media releases are not earth shattering news.

Just a reminder that a new livery wouldn't be completely unexpected...

New livery is the hot rumor this morning. They got an extension until December about any possible merger options, so I don't expect anything in that field.
