I was reading the old "KLM keeps Miami" thread and was wondering if KLM will be reinstating the AMS-MIA route for the Winter? I haven't yet been able to find any hint of the flight being restarted.

There are no plans to resume it this winter.

I often wondered how KLM could not MIA work even on a 332 when it does well to some leisure destinations (long haul) that are far far smaller.....like CUR or BON. Yes, I know less competition, but still the metro area for MIA is huge.

CUR and BON are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and there are very strong cultural ties between the Netherlands and the islands. Therefore the amount of traffic is significantly larger than to for example MIA, which is primarily leisure only.

I think we can put a fork in it. How many carriers have tried this how many times? This route does not work.

And it's not as if KLM doesn't offer the route, it's just via CDG on AF. Seeing that 80% of pax for AFKL are connecting it doesn't matter if they connect through AMS or CDG. It's a one stop deal anyway for most of them.

The main reason IMHO that KL doesn't fly to MIA is rather simple: they can use their aircraft more profitably on other routes (read: Africa and China).

I'm not familiar with ArkeFly's product. Is it a decent flight to take or would it be a sardine can?

Well, having ridden a NW333 last month, there's not much of a difference. Unless you get one of ArkeFly's 2-4-2 767s.   

MIA-AMS might be a route for AA to start if they want to try AMS. Problem is, as others have previously pointed out about AA in AMS, is the lack of connections at AMS.

Why use a plane on AMS-MIA when you can just route everything through Atlanta on either their own metal or DL?

There were 2-4-2 767s loooooong before the 777 even existed.

Apparently, the route can only support one carrier. When KL first discontinued AMS-MIA several years ago, it was due to competition from MP, who themselves discontinued the route in September 2009.

But not on full-service scheduled carriers. The few 2-4-2 767s have only been operated by a handful of charter or leisure carriers, virtually all in Europe if not mistaken. 2-4-2 on a 767 (or 3-3-3 on an A330/340, also only used by a few charter/leisure carriers) is even worse than 3-4-3 on a 777 which is bad enough.

AF is leaving MCO... KL could have a spot. At 80% load factor and especially a lot of connecting traffic might be worth it.

Even with 100% LF it still won't be profitable due to low yields.
