Well it was rumored the last week, but GDS load now shows KE will offer a 2nd daily ICN-LAX A380 service effective January 1st.

Added flight:

Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun
KE011 ICN-LAX 1950-1330
KE012 LAX-ICN 2350-0600+2

Appears this has been loaded so far only between January 1-31, with 77W shown being utilized in February again.

No - double daily five days per week.

I used to have an impression that lack of 380 gate could have been the reason for why KE had only 1 daily operation into LAX. (KE may not needed that much capacity until now, though. And KE could use bus gate if necessary, though.) QF occupies both 380 gates every night. Now that the 3rd 380 gate opens (#134), the issue is gone.

I think the topic has been deleted, but is this the equipment that was supposed to be used on Atlanta? I know ATL spotters (including me when I jet through) are certainly disappointed!

Regards,

Team

I suppose yes this was expected sooner or later as not only is Los Angeles the largest US Pacific gateways but it is an especially important market from Korea with the local large ethnic community that has long supported multiple daily flights.

I did however figure KE would spread the A380 flying around a bit more then double up on LAX so quickly. But I guess, this is a bit of a lower risk choice for KE to utilize such large capacity.

Nice. Doubt there will be a 3rd daily A380 though. The other two flights are ICN-NRT-LAX and ICN-LAX-GRU, which are operated by A330-200 and 777-300ER respectively.

The max seats KE has ever had at LAX was
ICN-LAX daily 747-400
ICN-LAX daily 777-300ER
ICN-LAX daily 777-200ER
ICN-NRT-LAX daily A330-200
ICN-LAX-GRU 3x weekly 777-200ER
ICN-LAX-LAS-ICN 4x weekly 777-200ER

ICN-LAX-LAS-ICN 4x weekly 777-200ER

Is LAS now nonstop both ways or still a triangular routing ?

ICN-LAX-GRU 3x weekly 777-200ER
ICN-LAX-LAS-ICN 4x weekly 777-200ER

Thats a good list, however I'm not sure it adds up to max seats.

Remember flights like NRT-LAX were on the 744 for ages also before getting the 777, and then A330.
Matter of fact even flights like GRU used to be on 744 also during the 1990s. Also LAS has seen the 744.

So basically at one time everything to LAX was on a 747, before the introduction of the smaller twins across the Pacific by KE.

Vegas is 3x weekly 772 nonstop now.

Does anyone else find the phrasing "double daily" just awkward? LOL

According to KE's website, the A380 is double daily, 7 days a week (14 weekly).

Actually that STA timeframe will peak the Group VI gate usage. In addition to the new KE rotation, both AF (arr. 13:15) and SQ (11:50 - 14:10) will have A380s on the ground. Add in LHs new 748i (starting Dec, arr. 12:50).

Fortunately, LAWA anticipates opening another A380 gate (130) in December.

Are all flights usually full ? Mainly O&D pax ?

I'm amazed to see all the seats KE has in and out of LAX. It's certainly the largest capacity for an Asian carrier on the West Coast.

Seems to be a mismatch with GDS listing.

Well Los Angles has significant ties to Korea - per Census there are some 325,000 ethnic Koreans in Los Angeles alone, with many more nearby so its certainly a huge travel market.

Per DOT in 2011, some 893,932 folks flew LAX-ICN making it in the top-5 of US - Asia/Pacific travel markets.

I was under the impression that the ATL service was simply postponed until late 2013. Upon seeing this thread, it appears to be because KE wanted to use the equipment on LAX-ICN, and is just waiting for more deliveries before they start ATL-ICN. Is this theory incorrect; have plans for the A380 on ATL-ICN been completely shelved? I do admit that I will miss the passenger 747 service in ATL after the route gets replaced with the A380 (aside from seasonal DL service).

Congratulations to KE adding another A380 to their LAX schedules. It shows they have a strong demand from the LAX market.
How are the fares and demand out of ATL? Instead of the A380, could KE possibly send the 748 to ATL?
How many of the new TBIT gates are now open?

KE can replace 10 weekly 777 ATL flights into a daily 380. When KE loaded 380 on ATL-ICN, the 3/w night flights were blocked, but they were back and now 380 plan is postponed. I would welcome more frequency (hopefully, eventually 2 daily) than 380 on this route.

I think KE's next 380 will be LHR and remove 3/w LGW flights. Both flights have similar schedule, so less likely keep LGW-ICN.

By the way, on January only, 2nd JFK flight is also loaded as 380. KE currently has 5 380s, will add 1 next month, 2 in 2013.

Are all of KE's A380s specced the same inside? I seem to remember them having a fairly "thin" configuration (for an A380, at least) so I guess that they're not dumping a huge number of seats onto the route, but I could be wrong.

KE has the least dense config of all A380 operators.

Oh they are getting two next year!!! Did not realise that. Well it makes sense them to go double on both egg-yolk US route for KE.

Now I have just checked the schedule and particular day I am flying out from ICN to LAX(8th of Jan) is 77W for some reason... what a bad luck. One good thing is now I don't have to stay overnight to catch the A380 flight at least...

Very smart move for KE. Lunar New Year is just around the corner, with many Asian people going home for the long holiday it was worth KE adding capacity. I don't think KE will have a hard time filling up the back with lots of VFRs going home.
