Topic: New Star Alliance Scheme?

I came across this SQ 777 in Star Alliance colors and wondering if Star has revised there scheme and if we are going to see more of this.

Any info on this will be appreciated.

This is not a new version of the Star livery. It has been in existence for the past several years.

This is just SQ's own take on the Star livery. I've heard that SQ was initially reluctant to put anything other than their logo on the tail out of superstition. That has however recently changed when they painted a 77W with the actual Star Alliance logo on the tail.

This bird has been around for years. SQ believes their brand is much stronger that *A and as such have refused to paint the Star logo on their planes. They managed to get away with this because *A needs SQ more than SQ needs *A. They had a 772A and a 773 (e.g. both non-ER) and a 744 in this scheme. Now they have an albino 77W in the proper star livery (with a white instead of a black tail).

I can't remember exactly what it meant, but in Singapore it is a colour of death or evil isn't it? Something like this?
But this is why they have a white tail instead of black.

Actually I believe they now have 3 of their planes in the albino livery - 2x 77W 9V-SWI & 9V-SWJ as well as 773 9V-SYL.

More superstition from SQ 006 that crashed and was painted in a special livery. I think after that SQ had decided not to paint any aircraft in anything other than the standard livery.

Although not directly related to the livery you asked about, the Star Alliance website has been asking for feedback for improvement. So perhaps soon, we can expect a different & hopefully better look/design from that site & much improved way to navigate its content. Who knows, there might be a refreshed colour scheme/logo/font associated with the website overhaul.

Any particular reason why you feel this way? While I would agree that SQ is a strong brand, they are not generally known for working well with other members of the alliance. What have you seen that suggests that Star Alliance is beholden to the needs and wants of SQ and cannot afford to lose SQ as a member?

Nah, I think Fuling is correct. If it was what you said (although it's true since they don't have any special liveries), they wouldn't even bother painting it in the *A scheme at all.

I think you have answered your own questions. They have an excellent network for *A to leverage on from Europe and Asia to pretty much every major city in Australia, plus to every capital and major city in SE Asia (though this bit is also covered by TG). Besides, how would you feel when you connect from an SQ flight to a *A partner flight on US, UA, and some of the other dubious airlines in the alliance?

Singapore is a much more powerful and differentiated brand than Star Alliance. I would easily bet my eye teeth on that. I would even say that most of the BIG carriers are stronger brands, LH or..even United. The Star Alliance is a service brand that is a feature all the Airlines can gain advantage from. The point is probably that Star needs to fight OW and ST.

Given OW and ST's new liveries or branding is now visually more impactful than Star- I wouldn't be surprised if Star is looking at a relaunch using a fresh new staging of their current branding elements, after a rigorous strategic review of how to reboot and move beyond the "STAR" positioning as the "star" airlines. With so many members it is far less an exclusive a club than the day it started.

If Star Alliance does develop a design for aircraft that is as bold as OW or ST,
Then it will be interesting to see how Singapore may recoil at that!

Hasn't SINGAPORE AIRLINES been written in the same font color like Virgin Atlantic? The paint looks almost same to me.
