Nothing earth shattering here but it's nice to see DL add more seats in the market.

The MSY-JFK goes from a CR9 to a 319 in mid February. All MSY-LGA flights are operated with 319's as well.

I don't know about you but I'll take a 319 over a CR9 any day of the week...

Why? The A319 has four fewer F seats.

I'm hardly ever in F when I fly, and I find the CR9 cabins pretty tight for anything over 1h30m...2 hours max.

I feel sorry for the poor souls who will endure JFK-SAT on the CR9 starting in February. Block time is 4h47m.

That is a long flight in Y if you 're in a CRJ 900. It would not be too bad in F. And, I am guessing that route would have reasonable upgradeability for any medallions.

No it doesn't. Both have 12 seats in F.

The CR9 is 4 rows of 1x2 whereas the A319 is 3 rows of 2x2. Row 1 on the CR9 is quite nice--it's actually not bad on the A319 either since there are cutouts in the bulkhead.

The only difference is the F--Y ratio. The CR9 is definitely better for upgrades than the 319.

This is what a.net has become. A whole thread to say a route is going from a CR9 to a 319?

And I thought that ATL-DEN on a OO CR7 was long (about 3.5 hrs). I still enjoyed it though; I'll take every chance I get to fly on a CRJ (all variants) because I fly mainline much more often than regional.

LOL im clearly not mad i was just kidding lets be honest here a thread to say a plane has been upsized so little is just kind of funny. Do you realize how many threads just like this we could start constantly? Its not like its a new route or a major upgauge. How many 320/319 fly in.out of MSY daily.........Look if it were an upgrade to a plane like a plane like a 757 or 767 or something more unusual for MSY or an airport i could see it but this just seems like a thread we could start like 500 of a month if we wanted to when schedules update.

Yeah I realize that. I thought it would be of interest to fans of MSY because it shows DL's continuing commitment to the market. Also, for me anyway, it's nice to see ANY route get switched from regional to mainline. In the past it's been the other way around.

Upgauges to mainline are always good news! This is a perfect route for the A319. The A319/A320 have been used a lot in the NYC market lately as far as upguages. This is mainly because DL wants to keep the 319/320 fleet off long flights due to the lack of inflight entertainment. A couple of days ago they started using an A319 on LGA-PIT for the last flight of the night!

I couldn't agree more. I, unlike a lot of the folks on this site, don't have the time to be constantly studying timetables and/or upgauges. So when someone else does it I appreciate it. And as stated earlier, it's CLEAR in the title of the post what it's about and if it holds no value for you, DON'T READ IT. Over time this site has turned more into people chastising and criticizing posts for everything from relevancy to lingo and has taken all the fun out of what this site is supposed to be. People - RELAX!

I think this thread also brings up the current very real question of 'What the he** is going on with RJ's in long flight stages'??? Its sickening to think about putting your passengers on tiny tubes for over 2.5 hours...they werent meant for that. I guess you could argue they were possibly meant for that given the distance they can fly on full tanks but its become rediculous (hence the other thread about all the RJ's in the U.S.) . Great thread, keep it up =)

DL sends many mainline a/c to outstations for RONs to alleviate the overnight parking constraints at LGA. Even if the flight's performance doesn't justify the upgauge, the a/c need to park somewhere.

Generally accepted a.net wisdom is: A seat in coach is a seat in coach. Absolutely no difference in the flying "experience" at all whether it's 3 hours on an RJ or 3 hours on a 763.

I of course don't agree!

I'm very happy to hear JFK service being upguaged, too! It seems that with the whole "LGA hubbing", JFK hasn't been feeling the love from DL for domestic service.

I go regional as much as I can as well! I fly US Airways from JFK to MYR instead of NK direct for a few reasons, but one of the biggest ones is because I am SO TIRED of a320 family aircraft (besides the a321). I LOVE LOVE LOVE the CRJs! Especially when I get the upgrade to first class.
Quoting BDL757 (Reply 12):

They also used the 319 on LGA-PWM for a while this summer! Talk about an "underdog" route!

That's great to hear. I'm curious as to the exact date for JFK flight, though. I would have thought with the Super Bowl coming to New Orleans on Feb 3 that the upguage would happen before that.

Even if it doesn't happen before the Super bowl, it will be there in time for Mardi Gras.

I agree - it's nice to have some variety out of MSY. I hope Delta times the flight so it can easily connect to other flights out of JFK, I would like to see some "hubbing" out of JFK as well!

JFK-MSY is mainly leisure and connectors, and can fill up a mainline jet.

Larger jets have lower seat costs in a price sensitive market. You are starting to see this in a lot of NYC markets: JFK-BOS, LGA-JAX, LGA-PIT

I think it starts on the 11th. About a week after the Super Bowl.

It sounds like routes i.e., JFK-SAT are downgauged during the slowest time of the year when the demand is not there for a A319. . I bet this route will be upgauged as soon as Spring comes around, or perhaps they will operate a A319 on the days where the demand is the highest and a CR9 on days where the demand falls off.

Is there any chance DL will bring the E75s into JFK? This would be a much better a/c to operate on these longer thin routes compared to the CR7/CR9s?

Not when it's a CRJ! Jungle Jets are bearable more than CR2s, CR7s and CR9s are ok, and E-Jets are very nice or even better than mainline according to some. But a CRJ seat is most certainly not equal to others. In this specific instance, it is true that a CR9 Y seat is pretty much a Y seat though.

E jets are as near a ML product you can have on a "connection" product. I dare say but for some airlines flying them as "regional" and others flying them as "ML" (US and B9), people wouldn't know the difference.

It appears that DL is moving forward (pushing?) with EMB for an order for 76 175's (CP and/or S5).
