Saw the update on boeing's site earlier and noticed the cancellations. I figured it would be DAE, no one else with more than 5 747-8I/F orders seemed likely.

So that still leaves five?

The original ten were ordered by Emirates Sky Cargo, then sold to DAE with the intent to lease them back.

Actually, on boeing's orders and deliveries site its shows 5 as of November 2012. So It seems the remaining order is now cancelled.

Fair enough.

Guess EK felt their 777 fleet provided enough cargo capacity?

So, how many B-747-8Fs remain on Boeing's backlog book now?

Orders 67, deliveries 26 (through November 30) = backlog of 41, less these 5 = 36.

Boeing did secure two 747-8 UFOs, but no word as of yet if they are passenger or freighter models.

Boeing also added three CX 747-8Fs to their firing order, so that implies a top-up order will be coming from them.

Is this the first time Emirates has *ever* downsized?

I believe they've cancelled orders or deferred them into irrelevance before. And they did briefly operate some A310 freighter conversions that they changed their minds on and brought in leased metal from Atlas Air and TNT instead.

That's odd because when I was looking at the order books last month or maybe it was in October, they still listed the full ten frames as being on order. When I saw that, I thought it was strang since I had thought they had already officially canceled five frames.

They did cancel an order for the A346 (was it 16 frames?) but it wasn't really downsizing as they ordered almost endless T7s in that time.

To me it looks like they've cancelled late and 2 UFOs and 3 for CX have bought their places in the queue.

Wouldn't be the first time their 777 has killed a Boeing freighter order. I guess sometimes your product is to damn good.

More like they don't need the capacity. Cargo market is down, CX, SQ, CI have all parked 744 freighters.

747-8F :

- DAE cancelled 5 ordered 747-8F aircraft, 5 still remaining.

- Two unidentified 747-8F aircraft ordered.

- At the FAL firing order 3 aircraft slots (L/N 1483,84 and 86) were assigned for Air China Cargo.(unannounced order). These aircraft received the tabulation numbers RC631-33 and were listed as 747-8FTF aircraft.

- Two weeks ago these 3 aircraft slots were re-assigned to Cathay Pacific Cargo as 747-867F aircraft. (also not announced yet) The aircraft received the sequential Cathay tabulation numbers RC561,62 and 63, following the original batch of 10 (RC551-560).

747-8F orders (end of November 2012)

The order for 5 Air China 747-8I aircraft is still listed at the Boeing website.

But those 5 were as of November 2012. The new cancellations were recorded in December, so would that not mean DAE no longer has any 747-8Fs on order?

EDIT: Evidently they still have 5 per Boeing, so they must have cancelled in November and it was reported in December?

Well the only other explanation I can come up with is if this cancellation was delayed in the weekly updates, because for the 747 it only shows the 5 cancellations from the recent update. Does anyone know how many 747s DAE had in October? Because I think that would help make this a bit clearer.

The A310F were in mid 2000s operated in addition to the 744F fleet which came in from 2001, they were not replaced by the 747s.

The user defined orders and delivery lists (as shown above) are updated at the end of each month and published a few days later.
One week ago the 747-8F list showed 10 DAE freighters.

I find it hard to believe that there are 8 747-8i VIP orders from the USA. Any at all for that matter.

The holds on the 777 are monstrous, there should be ample space for a LOT of cargo.

All of the B-747-8-VIPs are ordered through Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) who then orders them from Boeing Commerical Aircraft. Thus all of the B-747-8-VIPs are for BBJ who then gets them to the refit facility and then onto the customers.

That's what I figured . The only ones that would or could ($) order a 748i VIP in the US is for an AF1 replacement

There's a couple people in around here who could afford a 747i VIP. But they don't have the need to get a 748i. I'm crossing my fingers for Paul Allen to get a 787 VIP. Not just for his own use, but perhaps for the NFL team he owns .

Rumour that CX will send the B777F to Air China, and get 3 B748F from them. Makes sense I guess. Think the GECAS ones are going to Saudia
