Topic: US' A330's Coming In 2013

With US resuming deliveries of the A330 next year will there be new routes that come with them? I know South America is supposed to start soon, and they're not getting rid of their 767's until 2016 (maybe 2017... not quite sure there). So where will the new frames be going? Also, does anyone know exactly how many 330's will they be receiving? Thanks!

I believe there are 5 coming in 2013.

Well I believe they are just about maxed out on their current (S12) Int'l aircraft utilization, maybe some slack with the 752s. CLT-GRU starts in the Spring with a 762 and for the Summer season PHL-VCE goes to a A332. Presumably the 762 that was used on VCE goes to CLT-GRU and a new A332 will cover VCE. I doubt they add additional TA routes so the remaining 332s will likely fill in for 762s.

Where do the 762's go (other than South America) if replaced by the 330's?

At least during the winter the 762s are used on PHL/CLT-MCO, SJU, and I believe a few other warm weather destinations like CUN. Can they pull this off in the summer I don't know. Also they can upgrade current/borderline 752 routes. For instance I think PHL-DUB is a 762 in the summer, somtimes it's a 752.

Does somebody have an overview on their current 757/767/330 routes?
How many international 757s do they have?
How many 757s will US have left in 2013?

CLT-CDG goes back to a A332. Last year it was operated on a 762

For S13 only 3 European stations will be flown by 757 ( GLA , AMS , LIS ) the rest of Transatlantic routes either A330 or B767 . From W13 Schedule all 757's will be converted to Domestic configuration : with 2 more rows in First class and 2 more rows in Coach class added . I guess this will end 757 use on Transatlantic routes for US AIRWAYS .

That's interesting. Is it because US is enjoying high load factors and need larger aircraft or has the novelty of flying the B752 on TATL worn off?

If the B752s are returning to domestic service whilst more and more A321s are being delivered, US will have a lot of capacity. Is it sorely needed?

I flew CLT-STT on a 762 last spring. Was great to have a widebody.

Do they have AVOD on them? It seems like they would (or are) far behind their competition if they don't have AVOD on them.

They may have AVOD in Envoy but they just have overhead monitors in coach. Which is why I am thinking they might continue to pull them off int'l routes and put them on domestic, caribbean, and mexico routes.

Does the A330 have enough power to get to Asia? Perhaps NRT/PEK? How about stopping in PHX before continuing to those airports?

Seems the only international expansion left for US is (besides Brazil) Asia.

I think the 332 has the legs for PHX-NRT and maybe a few other eastern asian markets. However, it is believed that PHX could only be a marginal gateway to Asia. You also have slot issues at some of the Asian airports.

I think in a few years PHX-Europe is your best bet. Also US should look at it's current European destinations and see if multiple frequencies are possible. I mean the only multiple frequency desintation out of 18(?) from one hub is FRA. Frequency provides more options for paxs. I like what they have done in CLT to supplement PHL service.

No, they're resuming SNN but not BHX.

Does somebody have an overview on their current 757/767/330 routes?

Taken from the second week of June, this is their (preliminary?) long-haul deployment.

From PHL:

AMS - B752
ATH - B762
BCN - A333
BRU - B762
CDG - A332
DUB - B762
FCO - A333
FRA - A332, A333
GLA - B752
LHR - A333
LIS - B752
MAD - A332
MAN - A332
MUC - A333
SNN - B752
TLV - A332 (2)
VCE - A332
ZRH - B762

B752 - 4
B762 - 4
A332 - 7
A333 - 5

From CLT:

CDG - A332
DUB - B752
FCO - A333
FRA - A333, A332
GIG - B762 (2)
GRU - B762
LGW - A333 (LHR supposedly starts at the end of March but still isn't loaded)
MAD - B762

B752 - 1
B762 - 4
A332 - 2
A333 - 3

Other than that, I think there's only a handful of other domestic/short haul international flying with the 767/330 fleet. Mostly hub runs and I think a couple of MCO flights. The 757s are much more common throughout that network.

And for anyone wondering about the above totals, US is taking delivery of two A330-200s in May that will bring that fleet up to nine aircraft (one will come in August and the other two in 4Q I believe). Not sure where the 9th -300 is going to go, which is why I don't think this is finalized. Unless they really do plan on having a spare aircraft, which is a little out of character for them in the summer.

Quoting LH506 (Reply 4):
How many international 757s do they have?

US has 15 configured with Envoy. The other 9 are in a domestic configuration and primarily used for Hawaii.

When/if they get the east/west debocale figured out, what are the chances of bringing the 767s to Phx to replace/ supplement the 757s used for Hawaii?

So it appears the 757 will be almost completely off TATL service as they're letting the 767's and 330's carry the loads (rightfully so). Does US have anymore 330's coming in 2014 and beyond? Or are the 5 coming next year it until the 350's start arriving?

TBD, probably sometime in 2014. I think the delivery dates for next year were only just set about a month ago.

Obviously "a merger" would introduce its own planning....

But given that US will have enough A332 and B757 staying indefinitely AFAIK, the 762s will be retired at some point. US loves that airplane. You can see they are reluctant to part with them.

The rumor was that the 757s would be retired first and the 767s would fill in domestic spots were the 757s are currently.

There aren't many 762 domestic routes. Maybe 1-2 a day on PHL-CLT, which may even be to rotate them through the system on CLT-Europe and then occasionally (mainly in the winter) on PHL/CLT-MCO. Can't be more than 4-5 762 domestic flts a day. There are the warm weather 762 destinations but I really don't think the capacity is needed May-Nov

The 762s have a relatively similar capacity as the 752 domestic aircraft so I don't think it is inconceivable to see 762s on PHL/CLT-PHX/LAX/SFO/MCO
