Hi Everyone,

I am curious as to how the LGW fleet refurbishment is coming on for Virgin Atlantic.

I know they have some already refitted, but are they complete?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

They are now complete. The only a/c which will not be refitted is G-VTOP which is due to be retired early in 2013.

Yep - G-VTOP leaves service in JAN to be returned to lessor in early Feb is what I have heard.

Also the 3 class 330 will operate the barbados route over the summer.

I think the 3x A333 in the 2 class config (G-VSXY, G-VKSS, G-VINE) are due to get the new Upper Class suite shortly. The other 7 already have it and are LHR based.

It always strikes me as a waste of time for such new airframes not have not been delivered with the newer internal suites in the first instance. I would have thought it best for costing to receive the aircraft with the newer products?

The new UCS wasnt ready when these aircraft were delivered, as it was being designed specifically for the cross section of the B789. When that aircraft was delayed by 3 years VS had to take A333's, but the available delivery slots mean that the first 5 were to be delivered before the UCS was ready. Therefore, 3 were initially leased out and 2 were put into service on leisure runs.

Although VS took a bashing for it, the aircraft were (and are) actually very popular on the MCO runs, as the product was far superior to the (pre-remodelled) B744's.

G-VINE will be reconfigured in March, in time for operating trips to BGI throughout the summer. G-VKSS and G-VSXY will be reconfigured in September and October. They will then be rotated between LHR and LGW on higher yielding routes to the Caribbean as well as LHR to JFK/ORD/BOM/DEL/IAD/BOS/MIA

What will operate the GLA-MCO route S13 ? 2 class A330 / 3 class A330 or 747 ?
Had perhaps hoped there would have been an expanded long haul program from GLA ie CUn or BGI or even a short LAS series. Would be sure it do well. The prices on the MCO would suggest they can charge what they like !

Looking at the schedules its looking like a mix. Some weeks it will be a 744 and then other weeks it will be a 2 class A330, seems weird as august (which you'd expect to be a high demand month as the school holidays continue) will be on the A330!!!

Scottish School Holidays are earlier - June/July IIRC

True, but for those who live say in N.E England or close to the border GLA is still a viable alternative to travelling down to either MAN or LGW. VS will probably use the 744 on the services ex LGW which are double daily - I know that 3 days a week one of the flights is on the 330.

Peak Easter and early July will be 744 I expect to accommodate the school holidays.
As I understand it despite the high costs Upper Class did quite well from GLA when it was available
