My ex-wife is flying from YVR to SYD tonight (Dec 29) but she is on fight AC35 (the usual one is AC 33).

Since when has AC been flying 2 planes a day to Sydney and are they using 777-200LR for both?

I believe it's seasonal for Australians wanting to ski in Canada and Canadians wanting to escape the cold.

OK makes sense. AC33 has been delayed to 8am the next day, seems they dont have a pilot. Amazing!

10 weekly over our summer -- all on the 77L.

I think it reverts to daily at the beginning of February.

They must have taken a 200LR from their YYZ-Asia route and replaced with a 300ER

Has a non-stop YYZ-SYD route ever been talked about, perhaps to supplement a single YVR frequency in the high season? The Great Circle distance of that route is about 8400nm, whereas the published range of the -200LR, is around 8850nm. That makes it sound like it could do the flight without significant restrictions... Of course, the bigger question would be economic viability of such a long flight (and demand from YYZ in the first place).

Such a flight would be a bit over 100nm longer than Singapore's former SIN-EWR route...

Any ideas for why AC has the second flight sitting on the ground in SYD for over ten hours? It arrives at 845am and departs at 7pm.

Nick, perhaps it has something to do with the delay. Per my note above, it seems lack of a Pilot delayed AC33 out of Vancouver until 8am the next morning. Some poor schedulers somewhere are working overtime this past weekend

Don't think it has anything to do with the delay. Long ground time is in the schedule in their press release.

Don't understand what you mean. AC33 operates YYZ-YVR-SYD and AC34 SYD-YVR-YYZ. AC doesn't use the 77L to HNL.

This allows for a evening departure northbound which would suit many passengers I would think. This flight terminates in YVR , it does not continue onto YYZ.

Yes only for YVR as it is the Ski-jet, not for Toronto folks like me and actually a bit late to change and go on to YYZ, I wouldn't want to do that. The AC34 time works pretty well for us folks
