Ahh Dang .. 679 thats one of the newer ones!! I wouldn't have complained if it would've been one of the dirty dozen.. with A1 IAE's haha
Anyway, thanks for the reg. # wn676!!

That could be a possibility. I flew NK out of LGA a few weeks ago at night and I observed the lighting on the side of the taxiway get a bit closer than normal for about a minute before the plane made a sharp-feeling merge left, so I guess the pilot corrected himself pretty quickly. However, I don't think we got far enough off-center to have hit another aircraft if there had been one.

I have a feeling the day will come pretty quickly ! Especially with all the new 321's we are getting. But hey, who knows. A 320 had an APU fire at the gate in PHX on Christmas Eve or the day before, ship 624 IIRC. Leakin fuel everywhere apparently. No good ! Those frames with A1 's have a few hours on em .

That was 627. Went back in to service the next day. They just won't go away!

This is well aft of the pressure bulkhead. The whole tail cone section is unpressurized.

I'd also like to see some pics of that one. I want to know how the US plane had so much damage yet the NK plane returned to service "hours later". An impact like that had to have left some decent danage on ths NK too.

Nah... looks like the wingtip fence cut through the bottom of the tailcone. Do a check of the nuts and bolts, remove and CDL the fence (or replace it if you have a spare), and Bob's your uncle

apu cowl is very lightly built compared to the wingtip fence, and wing for that matter.
you can remove the fence per CDL and fly with restrictions. havent seen one yet though.

I'm at a loss as to how the pilot flying could've clipped an aircraft when there's so much room to spare on that taxiway.

Maybe it's a plan to try and take out competitors' aircraft.
But seriously, how does one pull a 320 that far over and not correct it? That taxiway isn't really all that tiny |

Hmm, seems to me like there would be more time required for a proper investigation and inspection. I guess those workers down in FLL work fast!
I'm also wondering how they wouldn't realize they were so far off center.
Which aircraft is this? The US Airways I'm assuming?
And on a side note, I've been on both NK and US a320s, and I still prefer the oldest of US a320s to a brand new NK a320! Just saying.....

"Hmm, seems to me like there would be more time required for a proper investigation and inspection. I guess those workers down in FLL work fast! "
And that's why it's called a prelimary investigation, sure' an in depth investigation would take a little longer but I'm sure initial fact finding can amply be done in 2 days.
"I'm also wondering how they wouldn't realize they were so far off center"
A little jumping to conclusions here, that they were off center. The RON parking pads were extremely full in FLL on the night of the 31st due to reduced schedules for most airlines for New Year's Eve/day. The preliminary investigation determined that the Spirit was on centerline, and the USAirways was not properly parked on the aux/ron pad. That part of taxiway T is a very dark at night, but none the less, on a controlled taxiway, you are guaranteed separation from parked aircraft if cleared onto a particular taxiway.

Even with the full pad, I'm thinking they were off center. Less so than needed to hit anything normally, but I just don't think the US airways plane was sticking far into the taxiway. By the sounds of it, the US plane had been there at least a little while and probably passed by at least a few other taxiing planes.
Just speculation, but I don't see how NK would hit it without going off the center line a bit.

lol
That's what I was thinkingg too, but beechtobus brought up the the US a320 was improperly parked, so it might not have been.
