It looks like Toronto's YYZ is having a good year in 2013 :
* Aeroflot is re-starting its service from Moscow to YYZ after 4 years of suspension
* Saudi Arabian Airlines are starting a new twice weekly flights between Jeddah and YYZ in June 2013
* Egyptair starting a new route between Cairo and Toronto ( 4 flights a week ) , June/2013
* Philippine Airlines are increasing their flights to YYZ from 3 times a week to daily .

Way to go YYZ

There is still a strong indication that another Chinese Airline will be adding service from new cities to YYZ.

As the South American market continues to expand and mature, watch for some new direct services to compete with AC. Trade is growing well with lots of cargo coming by air. Quick connections and shipping is allowing new fresh products to go both directions depending on season. Particularly northern hemisphere winter for South American growers. Berries all winter long used to be expensive but have become common place and at a much lower cost.

What's your best guess? I think Air China may have missed the boat a while back and Hainan moved in. China Eastern maybe? China Southern?

Good and well done to YYZ. I'm pleased for them. Great airport in deed. Looking forward to my next trip.

Is there an official source out on SV to YYZ?

I'm surprise they're doing so well considering they have among the highest airport fees/taxes/etc (from what I remember reading a while back). Maybe it's the lack of a competition in the immediate vicinity (Toronto area) which allows them to charge as they please. Even small to medium sized US cities have at least two airports.

My guess is China Southern but that isn't based on anything concrete. It is just a gut feel that they are a bit more aggressive at longer distances. It is probably based on trade levels as much as anything. Before Hainan I would have assumed it was Air China, but like you it feels less likely now.
