Quote: On January 28th 2013 Lamborghini will celebrate its 50th Anniversary year and the launch of the new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster with two events in Miami. These events kick-off a 10-day program where the Italian luxury brand will host 400 international media and dealers in South Beach. The Press Conference and Parade will take place at South Beach, Lummus Park, Ocean Drive 10th Street at 12 PM. A dramatic vehicle unveiling and press conference, at the presence of Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini, and Jerry Libbin, Miami Beach Commissioner, across from Breakwater Hotel will start a spectacular 40-car parade down Collins Avenue.
The parade will be followed by a High-Speed Demonstration at Miami International Airport. 12 Aventador Roadsters will simultaneously drive through the runway, including 5 individual test runs at 170+ mph. This is the first time the Miami International Airport’s runway will be closed for an automotive brand and the first time a vehicle will surpass 180 mph on ground at Miami International Airport. |

Didn't count but at the unveiling Winkelmann said there was 50 cars, not 40 as mentioned in the article. |

Would they be able to ask airlines to reschedule some of their flights for the day (well in advance)? |

I doubt closing one runway would have much impact. LHR with 2 runways handles more aircraft movements than MIA with 4 runways.

At 1.52 there was about to be an awesome shot of 2 Lambos and a jet behind - then someone drives an old truck past the camera. Boo.

Interestingly they did it at 3pm as they say that it is a quiet time for MIA, but if i remember correctly, from my travels, 3-6pm is the start of quite a big flow of international travelers! Also with runway 09 is usually the runway for LH's A380 ops, so maybe they were done in time for its 415pm departure (although they could use 26L if required but a huge pain to get to!)
BUT! What a great sound those cars make! Maybe one day in my dreams........ I can afford one.......a model maybe.... |

Much fewer than when a hurricane is on approach. "Hurricane (insert your fav name here), you are now cleared for landing on 24R."
Runway closures are part of life, they can be closed for various reasons, incl. maintenance. No big deal.

Too bad AA didn't have a freshly repainted bird for that shot!

Why would they want to ruin the shot?

Obviously, I understand they're going to use AA given MIA is their hub. Personally, I would've preferred something with more pizzazz like LAN or the new Aerolineas Argentinas.
Zing!
