Hi everyone...

Just landed into Heathrow this morning and got a glimpse of a Qatar 787 parked at BA east maintenance Base.... If your landing on the Northern runway in a western direction it's a fantasic photo opportunity.... Didn't have the chance unfortunity....

Very sad to see, engines are covered up so don't think it's going anywhere in the short term...

Ironically is parked around the corner from the Concorde...

The Future, Grounded!

I flew out of NRT yesterday, there was also a sad line up of 787s on the maintenance base apron there as we taxied out:
2 x ANA, 2 x JAL and 1 x UA (N20904).
Shame that my first sighting of a UA 787 was when it was grounded.

She went tech and had to overnight at LHR. The following day the 787 fleet was grounded so I guess QR has decided not to request a permit to ferry her back to DOH.

I saw the aircraft there last weekend. Isn't it rather expensive to keep it parked at LHR for weeks?

That is not airport land but rather that of BA.
Special rates may apply and its almost certain QR will be contra charging BOE at some point !

Yes it does seem odd that it's still at Heathrow becasue I have little doubt it will need to be through a check in Doha before going back into service.
Or maybe they'll just never, ever fly again.

This was mentioned in the mega B787 grounding thread. Basically no body YET (publicly anyway) knows where the aircraft will have to go for repairs, could be Seattle/Charleston, could be a designated MRO, could be the airlines maintenance base, could be where it is or could be somewhere else, nobody knows yet.
Another factor is that any ferry permit would require agreement from the authorities in each country the aircraft would fly over, because of the "before further flight" AD. That would be a nightmare to arrange! Could be done, but not until you need to. In fact it might be easier to send a Boeing team to each aircraft's location, especially if its "just" a battery swap.

Since the 787s were grounded by the FAA, I've been traveling up the bath road every morning to uni, and i see that poos 787 just sitting there  
It's been there weeks now  

Very sad indeed, saw it whilst I was driving down Bath Road. Hope Boeing manage to get solve the issues and get her back in the air where she belongs.

Not relevant in most cases, Air India, ANA and JAL would only have to ask their home regulator; JAL and UA could repatriate their aircraft without flying over third countries.

QR and LOT would have problems with this though.

I may be wrong but think I read that AI did.

One of ANAs B787 is stored at FRA since the battery incident. Last time I walked the ramp there I noticed LH Technic personel working on the plane, rather oddly they did'n enter the plane through the main door via stairs but rather used a ladder to access the bay underneath the cockpit ... I went with them and it was quite cramped to get all the equipment up there, binders, lists, etc up there.
