Iberia will officially present, tomorrow January 31st 2013 at the FITUR in Madrid, its new Business and Economy class products.

However, they have already posted one pic on their Facebook page of the new seats.

Old BusinessPlus seats were not particularly bad, but I assume that by now they needed a revamp. Y needs it badly.

Hate to say it, but are those the same seats as DL, just a different color? The economy seats aren't that different either save the ear pillows.

The J seats don't look like lie-flat 180°. Much more like 170°. I could be wrong, but both seats shown in the picture look like fully reclined and there is a slope visible IMO.

If that is the case I congratulate them to introducing a J seat other airlines opted for 10 years ago and are on the way out on most airlines. (If 180° lie-flat I am taking that back and really congratulate them. Like a politician, you know... ^^)

So they've chosen the EADS Sogerma 'Solstys' business class product as seen on Thai Airways and Etihad Airways.

Current Business Plus have never been outdated, and they have been lie-flat since 2009 when they decided to remove one row of seats (resulting in more than 70" of pitch).

New J seats are Sogerma Solstys and they are the same as Alitalia new J and Etihad, and they are lie-flat.

Y is a totally different history though.

You are probably right - on the ground. But in flight with a slight nose up attitude they will be fully flat.

Forgot to add, before anyone asks, that these new interiors will only be found on the new A330s as well as in the entire A340-600 fleet (the 346s starting to be retrofitted in May, according to Iberia).

The 340-300s that will remain in the fleet will not recieve the new interiors unless Iberia's management change their decision at a later stage.

Also, mood lighting on both new and retrofitted aircraft is initially going to be installed in business class cabins only.

Regards.

Mood lightning only for Business Class? Quite stingy in my opinion.

7 A343s have new Y interiors, the seats are similar to 330/346 new ones but without PTV's, although they have sockets, a huge improvement compared to the old A343s interiors.

Yes, that's what Iberia has announced. However, they have also said that they're not changing the livery so I say we better wait and see. If you pay attention to reply #23, the IBERIA titles on the PTVs have the new font type which is supposedly going to be used with the new livery. I guess the smokescreen IB employees have been trying to deploy (denying the new corporate image) hasn't been thick enough.

Yes, I have tried the newer seats already...almost a year ago actually. Those seats have been around since the second half of 2011.

Btw those 7 343s are, excepting EC-HGV, the oldest in the fleet. Of course EC-KCL is VERY old (20 years old), but I'm talking about the original IB A343 fleet, not taking into account the 2nd hand aircraft (KCL, KOU, KSE, the three of them featuring the same economy class Sicma Aero Seat model which is currently installed on the A346s).
Another thing. EC-HGV was scheduled to be one of the first to leave the fleet this year, but that was announced before the latest decisions were taken.

I wonder why they decided to refurbish the old ones instead of getting rid of them as soon as possible. I don't know, but maybe the old ones are property of Iberia, while the newer are leased, so Iberia prefers to get rid of the leased planes as it is more convenient.

It's such a shame that BA isn't using these seats on the 787/A380/77W (and retrofitting to the rest of the fleet). They offer far more space/direct aisle access without a major reduction in density.

But good news! The easy way out would have been using BA's seats with a different seat covering, so it's good to see that IB has gone in their own direction.

If they are the same as the SWISS seats then am I right that they are the same as the J class seats on the newly refurbished BA A321 midhaul fleet. If I remember rightly the seats were delivered to BD but only installed post-acq by BA.

I notice that on the IFE the word 'Iberia' isn't italicised (as is on the normal logo) and the 'IB' logo is missing. The colors also seem different from normal. Is this just a careless photo or is a rebranding on the cards? If so, does anyone know when?

IB Business class was already always quite good and did not need any big revamp, but nice to see anyway.

For economy however, the improvement is huge and was looong overdue. This finally puts IB on par with others.

If you look at the parallel "livery" thread, it seems that an IMO tasteless rebranding is underway. We'll know for sure when the first fully painted A333 is revealed in the next days or weeks.

Iberia has already given acceptance for MSN1377 (will be registered as EC-LUB) and unless there's a last minute change, it will be delivered next week (February 5th).

The second A333 (MSN1385 / EC-LUK) is also expected to arrive during February.

That's exactly what I think. Not only the current Busniess Plus seat is a very good one, but it's still being installed by some first-rate airlines and referred to as a "top class" seat. Thai has chosen the same model for their A380 Business Class, for instance. It's also the same seat model offered by Air Mauritius (launched recently), South African (award winning), LAN (on their A343 and 763 fleets), and Avianca (although with a smaller pitch, so no fully flat), among others.

The only downside in the current Business Plus product is the IFE system, which offers very little contents if compared to other airlines.

What's your opinion about them?

They're not bad. The only complaint is that the seatback is so slim it feels really hard. On the other hand, and thanks to that, legroom is acceptable even though it has been reduced by 1", from 32" to 31" (those 7 A343s have 267 seats in economy).

They have good recline and I may be mistaken here but It feels as if the seat cushion slides towards the front a little bit when reclining. The power port is a bit difficult to find, as it's in the lower part between two seats.

Also, the CRT monitors above the middle seats have been replaced by LCD screens, and the central bulkhead screens have been replaced by big LCD monitors too (37" or 40").

I took several pics of the cabin when I tried those seats. I'll see if I can find them and post them here so people can see what they can expect if they're flying one of the refurbished Iberia A343s. Not easy to know in advance (the earliest would be upon doing online check in, and depending on your fare type it may vary from weeks before to only 24 hrs before the flight). Of course, there are several routes where these aircraft are being used more often (GIG, UIO/GYE, GUA/SAL, PTY, as well as SDQ, SJU, HAV and MVD, but we all know what's about to happen with those last four destinations).

Quoting mfc (Reply 28):

At least 4 of them are Iberia's property (GGS, GHX, GLE and GJT, I think) so that would have to do with their decision, most probably.

Unlikely as BA only launched their current ammended livery with the heraldic crest aft of the main titles in September 2011. Currently only about 43 aircraft in the Union Flag livery also carry the crest which was on the tail of the earlier BA Landor livery..

Of course I'm not complaining and I absolutely welcome the change, but I'm not sure it was 100% necessary to replace the current Business Class hardware. Economy Class is a completely different story, as we all know.
