Was not expecting that!! Great stuff for Gatwick when so many other airlines are pulling out...

Wonder if this is a stop gap until Garuda can nab some LHR slots?

GA doesn't have any 777's in their fleet at the moment, do they have these on order? Leasing? Possible typo?

How long will the flight be? SIN is 13 Hours so maybe around 14/14:30 Hrs?

By "nab" you mean spend a small fortune on? They're non alliance so no powerful friends to share spare space with.

New deliveries should be coming around June of this year from Boeing. The second should come later in the year.

Given JAL never brought back the second LHR-NRT or indeed LHR-OSA and BA's LHR-HND is hardly setting the heather alight do you think this likely? Japan is a tough market and adding lower yielding additional capacity from LGW a la Korean Air doesn't really seem to work.

While on the subject of Asia, Vietnam will soon be going daily. Thy have very high pax and cargo loads so great to see then doing well here!

If I remember correctly Garuda used to fly a 747 LGW-FRA-DXB-DPS in the 80s.

I hope they route something like that again as flying non-stop to DPS in a 777 is going to be very painful. Shame they don't have A380s.

Too many uncomfy passengers will surely kill the route.

If Vietnam are doing as well as you say how come flights ended up routing via CDG and FRA last year? Also as others have said, Korean Air are gone for good, BA's launch of LHR-ICN saw to that.

According to routesonline.com there is to be a fifth weekly flight to Gatwick from mid April , being the third SGN-LGW service, so presumably the demand is there to merit the extra flight. Having said that the LGW website continues showing 2 flights per week to SGN for the summer season.

I never quite understood the temporary stop in FRA or CDG but they were described as Technical stops rather than passenger stop off and collect stops.

Wasn't it for the UK peak summer period? It was a number of months rather than weeks which led me to suspect they were heading for the exit door sharpish. Glad they stayed the course though, awesome colour scheme!

sorry I didn't make myself clear - I know the tag on was in summer, not too surprising as that is it generally the best time weather wise - my comment about the Hanoi area really just an example of quite seasonal weather in Vietnam.

I too am pleased the route seems to be doing well - VN also have a fantastic domestic and regional network which I've experience and really enjoyed. Flourishing airline for sure, crappy J class thought - needs to lie-flat.

VN have recently announced a weekly NHA-DME flight so NHA can handle a 777.
