Sorry, but I just have to correct that one. It should read
777-200ER/200LR.
Anyway, I would say that all the three majors have quite diverse fleets. It is even more mixed up when you throw in the regional jets operated for each carrier.

Does anybody know why the most recent US A321 was delivered with CFM not IAE which seem to be the case with deliveries over the last few years.
For general fleet size, hands down, the three big Chinese carriers CA, MU & CZ.
From E145s to 747s and everything in between and mix of engine manufacturers too.
The usual 737NG & A320 mix but the A320s are delivered with mix of CFMs & IAEs.
One day its a A320-232; next week its a A320-214. Same with the A321s & A319s. |

You have to distinguish between Lufthansa Group (LHCargo with the MD11F, Cityline with the ERJ's and CRJ's, add then the A332 of SN, and the 777, 767 and F100 of OS, etc.) and LH itself.
LH only has only A380, B748, B744, A346, A343,A333, A321, A320, A319, B735, B733 (did I forget one?)
It strongly depends on the point of view.

I think that it is very easy for the large/mega carriers to have highly diverse types in their fleets. With the wide range of routes they operate they require diverse aircraft.
A better question may be which carrier operates the most diverse fleet in realtion to its overall inventory size?
UTAir may be a good candidate in this field.
I previously worked for an airline that 12 years ago had a total fleet of less than 42 a/c:
A333...A332...A321..A320..B737-400...B737-500...Bae146...FK50.....most of any 1 type was 6 I believe.

Training, maintenance etc. If you do things in house I can't see how it would make sense. Fleet commonality is a big plus for JetBlue and Southwest if you ask me. IT doesn't have to be 1 type but if its 3-4 it makes a big difference I think. |

If we take Austrian separately, they had/have a bit of everything that flies:
736, 737, 738, 319, 320, 321, 772, 763, F70, F100 for a very modest total number of planes. Lufthansa's bosses have grown lots of grey hair in thinking how to deal with this mess. The only time I've been in Vienna in 2010, I saw six different types of OS at six gates in a row. That is something. |
