Looking forward to catch a ride on this bird.

The BA livery and the A380 is a match made in heaven IMO . Makes the A380 look good!

Think it's going to be quite advantageous to BA to be one of the last majors off the blocks with their A380 offering; they know what all their major competition are doing with theirs.

My honest opinion is that the interior looks no different to the last BA 777 I travelled on, admittedly that was one of the ones refitted last year. To me it appears that BA have decided to just stick with what they are doing on the 773's. Perhaps their analysis is that some of the tweaks and features other airlines have used aren't worth pursuing.

Indeed that certainly could go in their favor. From the little I can see I like the look and feel it will be very stylish with no cheap gimmicks or bling bling .

I hope they improve service, interior looks ok, nothing exceptional to be honest compared to SQ or LH or EK. Must admit BA livery does look fantastic on 380..not better than KL tho.

You choked out that liitle snipping of praise amongst all the digs.

Talk about give with one hand and take with the other.

Classic comment.

Maybe if BA ran unprofitable non-stop long-haul service from MAN on the A380 you'd be slighly more complimentary ?

BA is the next new operator of the A380, right? Whose next after that?

BA livery on the A380 looks great! Will miss the B744s when they finally leave the fleet though, even though that is still a few years away from inevitability.

I don't get the point of split J. Wouldn't putting J and F on the upper deck (or at least moving all J) allow for a higher density aircraft while keeping just slightly less F/J seats? Or even a more premium layout by all J on upper floor and F and Y+ at the front of the lower floor?

Split J seems odd on this aircraft.

Wouldn't that just affect the overhead bin? According to the upper deck map, there is no crew rest, just other seats. It might be an access hatch to the lower deck, similar to the nosewheel access hatch on the 747.

The crew rest area is below the main deck, hence a seat missing from only the main deck, not the upper deck.

Because one of the repeated negative comments about the A380 is the lack of exclusivity or upmarket feel when J is one huge cabin.

The BA configuration gives the impression of 3 smaller, separate J cabins, which will lend a more exclusive feel to the experience.

I, for one, hate the EK layout. It's a J class bus.

I think BA have it right on this score.

Nothing particularly inspiring, but then I don't think anyone expected it. The industry is a markedly different place even when compared to when the 380 first came out. I do think it's a shame that BA aren't any longer the market leaders in product, it would have been nice to see some inovation with this launch but while the current CW offering continues to do the job BA don't seem to view it as a worthwhile investment, which is sensible.

I have flown on A380 and it's such a wonderful and comfirtable ride..it's good even in Y class. I will be traveling on EK380 shortly..eagerly waiting for it.

One thing I don't like about EK380's that they don't have Y class in upper zone...BA have done well in that case...it's special occasion to seat at upper zone to me.

I wish to see this bird at MAN soon.

Looks smart and traditionally understated - but I am not sure about that seat in the middle of 3 in the J class upper deck - it looks very hemmed in - almost cupboard like to me. A comfy cupboard I am sure.

1) Is this really enough of an issue to stop potential pax from flying with BA?
2) Could simple cabin dividers and better staff allotments to each cabin, not achieve the same?

While BA could step up the service, they are fighting an emotion. Their J class is easily world class, that is not the problem, it is the perception. They have to reach out to peoples emotions rather than logic.

Am I correct in saying that BA is the first to have J downstairs? That's far rarer than having Y upstairs.

Quoting ytz (Reply 19):
Split J seems odd on this aircraft.

The layout upstairs means that there are no pairs of seats for couples. Some couples actually want to sit next to each other while they fly. It also means that J passengers don't feel like they're walking all the way to the back of the plane while boarding, and will get premium passengers off the plane faster at the end of the flight.

Quoting jumpjets (Reply 29):

I agree -- it will be interesting to see proper photos of these seats. There appears to be an additional bit of space next to the seat though, so it might prove popular if there is a table area to spread out onto.

Sorry for nitpicking (and OT): I never heard about a RAF DC 10. Or do you mean Royal Dutch Air Force?

I would definitely not like to get one of the backwards seat even though - in the worst case - it might be even safer...
Do they advice you during boarding that you will have a backwards seat? The travel agent of my organization surely doesn't know about this particularity and would not mind making a reservation for such a seat.

I never fly BA business class on long haul due to their rear facing seats.
I prefer to have a window seat if the seat next to me is empty. This is not possible with BAs configuration.
And facing rear in a window seat gives me a claustrophobic feeling.

Exiting times, indeed, especially for BA, the BA/AA JV, and oneworld at LAX. Two new products highlight the year, the AA 77W (with all-aisle access in J) and the A380.

After that, one can look forward to the oneworld mega-lounge at the new TBIT.

I think that splitting the J class is a good idea from a passenger's point of view, even if having premium classes on two levels won't allow a separate boarding like on EK.

I personally I would have preferred WT+ on the main deck with 2-4-2 configurations and more economy on the upper deck, again with 2-4-2 configuration. In this way I believe the cabin would feel less crowded.
