According to PIA schedule they will continue ISB-LBA with A310 for summer schedule, 777 will be used from October, it was due to begin from midddle of March then later in the month and now this.

Oh dear, a couple of individuals in Leeds are going to be hopping mad, though I couldn't ever see the route making money with such a capacity hyke; sorry Mr Khan and Mr Shafique.  

The B772 will bleed money on the route if it ever happens.

When the A310s finally go, My hope would be for them to leave Leeds to the likes of Shaheen or Air Blue and focus on delivering reliable, consistent daily service to MAN.

As much as I would like to see the PK service to LBA do well, what you say makes a lot of sense. I think it would be far better (and profitable) for PIA to consolidate their operations out of MAN for the North of England. I wasn't even aware LBA could handle a 777? Would it not be extremely performance restricted out of LBA?
But yeah I agree, Air Blue might be more suited to the Leeds market.

They were pulling out of LBA in 2010 but someone in UK convinced them to stay on.

I have been told that once LBA is 'a little more up to scratch' then Emirates will launch DXB. For now it makes sense for PK to stay at LBA where same airport competition is limited, unlike MAN.

I'll eat my hat if Emirates ever start LBA.

Emirates have invested too much at MAN, plan a 2nd daily A380, have already assigned numbers for a fourth daily service and have spent a fortune on infrastructure and premium lounges.

Emirates know what PK are yet to work out, that being, as a long haul operator, Leeds is too close to MAN to have a major operation at one and an occasional service at the other. Emirates would not gain anything by operating out of Leeds.

PK have had some abysmal loads out of LBA, and that's on the diminutive A310.

What hope for the much larger B772, which will also soon be the de facto entry frame for EK?

Plus....it's LBA. I hated flying into there with a passion; the Narita of Yorkshire on a bad day.

Air Blue could make LBA work with their airbus narrowbodies quite succesfully alongside their MAN service.

Air Blue have the perfect aircraft; PK sadly do not.

I too think air blue could really make lba work but I'm surprised that pia can not considering the large Asian community around lba.

By the time PK sort their $**t out and actually take those A320s, the rest of the world will be flying things generations more modern.

Plus, I was under the impression the A320s were going to be a strictly regional and domestic fleet...?

This is exactly what sprung into my head. It must be severely RTOM restricted I would've thought. Runway 32, Wet with a 25kt crosswind (normal LBA weather!) wouldn't be my idea of fun in a 320 let alone a 777!

With what equipment though? If as to be believed the A332's are on their way out, then the next size closest to that would either be a 777-200 or an A340. So what you've been told, doesn't hold water. But that being said, I'd love to be proved wrong

I feel sorry for PK. It was once such an innovator and leader and had such a reputation for quality. How things have deteriorated to the mess they are now in is criminal, and I do believe some of those responsible for the decline should one day be held accountable for their devious, fraudulent actions.

LBA was started after constant pressure from one particularly vocal individual in Leeds, on both the airline and politicians.

PK threw their smallest long haul aircraft on the route and it has tanked. The loads aren't there, and certainly no premium. PK try to pull it, but again, people in power put pressure on them to keep it going. What solution was there for PK? Their only other aircraft was the B772 ! It's crazy !

I'd been led to believe there was a scope clause that prevented short haul aircraft in the fleet going mid or long haul, so I'm not sure how easy it would be for PK to do an Air Blue and send their A320s to Europe, that is if they ever arrive.

The Leeds route is indicative of an airline which has lost its way and which is no longer being run by its own personnel. It's all about status and ego. The customers seem today to be a secondary concern to PK. Coming from an airline with such a fascinating and successful history, that strikes me as quite a tragedy.

Those are both also leaving, they aren't looking at destinations which can't support a 77W or 388. But even so, I would think that there would be very little demand in the region and the traffic low yielding. EK would have many destinations that they could better use the equipment on. And for the Pakistani community there is always the MAN-Pakistan flights.

LBA's catchment area isn't exactly small, I would be very surprised if premium demand couldn't support a daily service. Also having a rail link firmly on the horizon is going to help increase the public transport connectivity and reduce journey times. In general their masterplan has some significant aspirations including making provision for a runway extension at both ends and associated infrastructure upgrades. That's been done for a reason.

How about combining LBA with another destination? ISB-LBA-XXX-ISB or something like that.

When was that?  When my mother worked for KL (their handler at AMS at that time) in the 70's and 80's PK already had a reputation of being a dodgy airline for not following rules, messing around with loadsheets, etc... so I'm quite surprised to read a statement like yours.

PIA revealed plans of changing their CPH-OSL rotation over to Leeds, suspending their operations to CPH.
They intend to operated LBA-OSL on the same rotation. Last time I heard anything was in November, so their plans might have change since nothing has yet been presented.

From my personal point of view, It's a smart move as their operations to OSL on Wednesday and Saturday will fit perfectly into the current LBA schedule. That might also be an argument for choosing Leeds over other potential combinations.
