Orlando based Capital Cargo International Airlines has notified the DOT is formally ceased service and is returning it air carrier certificate and underlying authorities.

CCI in December announced it would seek to merge with its sister company Air Transport International with ATI being the surviving entity. Last flight operated by CCI was in late January.

Probably a good move. Just as with passenger airlines - in fact much more so - consolidation brings stability for cargo carriers. Interesting to see so many carriers go the way of the dodo..

So does this mean that CCI is gone or did they merge? I'm confused...

Merger. ATI is the surviving entity. 727s have been parked.

Quoting bhmdiversion (Reply 2):

Both Capital and ATI were owned by ATSG, the parent company of ABX Air. The company announce that with the retirement of the 727s and in order to improve financials, it would merge Capital and ATI, which is what they did.
