Wow, reported engine problems from Jet2 are being linked to the runway at BFS being unsafe, thus they have suspended their flights there.

As per the article (see link below), it seems no other airline has taken the same view, yet.

Weird...I wonder if the landing fees at BHD are cheaper than in BFS...........

So far only the domestic passenger flights are mentioned, but they also operate international flights to other destinations (incl. ACE and TFS, I doubt BHD's runway is long enough for t/o for these routes?) plus two daily return cargo flights to EMA on behalf of the Royal Mail each night, any info on those flights?

According to the last paragraph of the article no other airlines, or for that matter no other Jet 2 aircraft have reported any problems.

All the reported incidents have been on the same aircraft although the article doesn't identify the timeframe between incidents.

If it was a problem with the runway you'd expect complaints from the other airlines.

Sounds like someone at Jet2 is over-reacting.

I believe this has blown way out of proportion as no other airline seems to have had any problems whatsoever, it sounds more to me like Jet2's ageing B733's having on-going engine problems but just taking the opportunity to blame it on the airport and not themselves.

TFS will be departing from LDY . Nice bit of business for them.

Just wondering why they have overreacted, I thought they had a profitable base in BFS but maybe that is not the case?

If there is a stone/debris issue due to the runway works, the fact that LS use a 737 Classic with its nearly ground-hugging engines vs. the "every other operator" being nearly all A320 might actually give this some backing.

Actually they're the only 737-classic operator at BFS as far as I know. Some others might use 737-NG's but the majority is indeed A32S and other types.

Sorry, but no, TNT currently have two B734 Freighters doing the evening hops to Leige and they haven't complained....

When was the last time you heard a cargo airline complaining?
We prefer to take the dirt road and enjoy it

Must have missed that one.

Situation solved for now:

Update re; Flights scheduled to operate from Belfast International from Wednesday 10th April 2013

Following our decision to temporarily suspend operations at Belfast International Airport, due to safety concerns during the current maintenance programme on the main runway, we have today come to an agreement with the airport that we will now operate all our flights using the alternative North/South runway. This will take effect from Wednesday 10th April, until further notice. This decision follows close consultation with the airport and a detailed safety assessment conducted today. All our customers due to travel from Belfast International this week should go to the airport as normal.

We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused however the safety of our customers is of paramount importance and we will not operate from Belfast International Airport’s main runway until the resurfacing has finished.

Now this is exactly what they should have done in the first place rather than moving to different airports. They seem to have made a mountain out of a molehill.
