Hello all,
I got the email from DL a while back to check out their store on W.Broadway and Broome in Soho, NYC for the opening new Terminal 4 at JFK.
So we went there with friends at lunch today and WOW what a great time we had.
Live DJ playing some upbeat dance music, with bunch of DL workers in Red T4 tshirts helping guests with full energy and smiling faces. Everyone was all helpful to get the maximum experience. Just look at what I ended up with ;

-$4 Lunch, comes in a cool DL cardboard lunch box. 4 choices; I got the "Paris" sandwich, that comes with a free soda and small biscotti, peanuts and a plum. Since I am a Silver Elite, lunch was free for me!!! Great!
-Just for checking in I got two tickets to the NY Yankees, Toronto BlueJays baseball game this Sunday. Awesome!
-A coupon for 10% off of a ticket on DL
-A coupon for a free drink/headset on DL
-A DL t-shirt
-Also we were given a travel mug each, but I declined.

All this for just showing up!!
While we were there, someone got a free airticket from DL. I think this was hidden inside their lunch box.

Thanks DL.

They're really pushing the opening of T4. There will also be 30-second segments on Bloomberg until May 24th. Marketing has got their stuff together when it comes to NYC advertising.

Glad that you had a good time. A couple of us are suppose to make a day trip to NYC and the T4X Popup was suppose to be a stop.

Quoting questions (Reply 5):
LAX. Not sure about "winning" but LAX is the next big focus. Marketing money believe it or not is highly concentrated. A huge chunk of the budget has been allocated primarily to NYC and LON.

But as senior executives have said internally, gears will be shifting out west (already started) and that's where the spotlight will be.

I know this isn't the same city, but this is a far cry from marketing we used to do in SLC in the 80s (pre DL/WA). DL marketing asked for volunteers to make some chocolate chip cookies and my first wife volunteered to make about 4 dozen......we then bagged them up, 2 or 3 to a bag with ribbons and I accompanied the marketing rep around to the local travel agencies in SLC and we handed them out. Today is different than then, but it still seems to be very hands on.

Good Work, Delta!!

I can remember from when I worked at ORD, SHV & SLC that I never saw a DL TV advertisement for any of those cities, nor any print advertising, either. I imagine they probably did in ATL, but I can't say for sure

Actually, in the '70s', Delta advertised heavily on TV in the PHL market despite never being that big there (Eastern "owned" PHL). I specifically remember the "Delta is ready when you are" slogan pushing the L1011 services to Florida , the Bahamas and Bermuda. These were generic commercials that were designed for the NE region of the U.S., especially in the winter time.

This. At one point 90% of marketing budget was going to NYC.
Now a large chunk is going to LA and London. (also sounds like marketing has gotten a nice increase in budget) along with NYC
also ATL is getting a little bit more than they use to. You know, southwest effect

Heck in the 90s growing up my grandma use to do the same thing.
Of course, people are always selling food at the hangar. Even now.

Pretty amazing when I remember my childhood and Deltas Dc-8s at JFK, not many and almost anamolies. And now they're positioned to own LGA, JFK (intl), etc...

In that case, they were probably meant for a new segment of passengers, that had flown on NE prior to the DL/NE merger in '72.

I remember asking my station manager in SLC, once, why there were no local TV ads for DL in SLC and he said, why sell something you've already sold.....in other words (and this is prior to the Western merger) the flights from SLC to ATL and DFW (and later, CVG) were chockablock full of revenue pax.....no seats left to sell.

Delta's marketing department is very good. Though this isn't the first time they've done something like this in NYC - they had a Song-related pop-up shop back when Song was trying to establish itself. Hopefully the T4 move will work out better than that did.

Probably will. For starters, they're not trying to sell something new.. but rather provide info. on something they've upgraded. It's also a better point in time..
